The Arrest of a Strange Man Outside of Nancy Guthrie’s Home Is Not Connected to Her Disappearance
While authorities have yet to bring Nancy Guthrie home, there have been some strange developments in the case. At the very least, there have been some strange occurrences outside of her home nearly a month after the 84-year-old was last seen alive. An arrest was made close to the octogenarian’s house this week. While it is unlikely to be related ot her disappearance, the arrest does highlight some of the stranger happenings in Guthrie’s neighborhood in the Catalina foothills.
A man was arrested after circling Nancy Guthrie’s home multiple times
An arrest was made on February 26 outside of Nancy Guthrie’s home. While the arrest is likely unrelated ot the disappearance of the elderly woman, the detained individual does seem to have a strange obsession with the case.
According to the New York Post, 34-year-old Antonio De Jesus Pena-Campos was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges outside the home of Nancy Guthrie around 8 pm on February 26. His strange behavior regarding Nancy drew attention in the first place. The arrest came after members of the media who had been camping by the property for updates observed suspicious activity. Members of the media observed a man in a blue vehicle drive past Guthrie’s residence more than 50 times during the evening. They noted he stopped or slowed by the memorial and stared at photos of Nancy.
When police made contact with Pena-Campos, they noted he was driving under the influence and arrested him. The arrest highlights the case’s odd nature and people’s continued interest in the hunt for Guthrie. Still, the Sheriff’s office has made it clear that there is nothing linking Pena-Campos to the abduction at this time. What he was doing on that evening has not been revealed. Journalists who witnessed the strange activity posit that the case’s unusual nature has brought out the strange side in people.
The Guthrie family is offering a massive reward
The hunt for Nancy Guthrie has gone on for weeks. Now, the entire Guthrie family is hoping a large reward will spur action. Earlier in the week, Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram to announce a reward for information. In the heartbreaking upload, the Today co-host said the family was providing up to $1 million for information that directly leads to the recovery of Nancy. While the Guthries remain hopeful for her safe return, they do acknowledge that Nancy may have died. Savannah noted that, either way, the family wants to bring Nancy home and celebrate her life.
The reward, which the family was prepared to offer in the early days of the hunt, could be split among multiple people if multiple tips led to Nancy’s recovery. The FBI is offering a separate $100,000 reward for information. Thousands upon thousands of tips have been received since the search for Nancy was launched. None of those tips has yielded results yet.
This is a developing story.
