The Golden Bachelor season 2 was not nearly as popular as the show’s first season. There are several reasons for this, but most fans agree that subpar casting for the lead was the primary issue. Mel Owens isn’t the villain he seemed to be ahead of the show’s premiere. He, however, wasn’t exactly charming, either. Owens was pretty “mid” and, frankly, didn’t seem up to the task of being a lead on a dating competition that pretty much relies on bold proclamations of love and plenty of drama for ratings.  Despite that, he did find love on TV, and left the series hand in hand with Peg Munson. So, are Mel Owens and Peg Munson getting married? Not anytime soon.

Why did Mel Owens pick Peg Munson?

Peg Munson, a retired firefighter and bomb technician, was a fan favorite from the very start. Viewers liked her moxie and her unorthodox approach to life. She wasn’t the only contestant who caught the attention of fans and of Owens, though. There was also Cindy Cullers and Debbir Siebers. Both women made it to the hometown dates. So, what made Owens choose Munson?

In the end, Munson was the only woman left in the competition. That’s not to say she wasn’t the right choice; it is simply a fact. Owens eliminated Siebers after the Hometowns episode, a move that felt harsh and pretty insensitive. Cullers self-eliminated before even making it to the fantasy suites. Culler, who many fans assumed Owens would pick, noted that Owens’ lack of commitment didn’t sit right with her. She knew he wasn’t the man for her after he asked for years to make a final decision about engagement. Munson, at the end of the day, was the final contestant standing, but she’s also the only contestant who seemed to truly understand Owens’ trepidation and was willing to accept it for what it was. The couple actually seems well-suited to each other.

Are they getting married?

The season finale of The Golden Bachelor ended with Mel Owens offering Peg Munson a ring. She accepted it. While there is certainly a ring on Peg Munson’s finger from Mel Owens, it’s not an engagement ring in the traditional sense. He’s not ready for all of that, and neither is she. The former NFL star and the retired firefighter left The Golden Bachelor together, but they didn’t leave the series engaged.

The couple chatted about their romance during the finale and admitted they are both very happy with where they are and are in no rush to get engaged. The promise ring remains in place, though. In short, Mel Owens and Peg Munson are indeed together, but they do not plan to get married anytime soon.

That isn’t uncommon for the show. While there are plenty of pairs who leave the series actually engaged, few end up married. There are several current couples from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette who are taking their time getting to the aisle. Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple, the couple from the first season of The Golden Bachelorette, are a prime example. While they left the competition engaged, they are making their own rules and are not rushing towards the altar. Perhaps the older contestants see how poorly that turned out for Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner, and are choosing a different path. Either way, it seems to be working for now.
