The Reason Joe Burrow Didn’t Eat The Customary Sideline Turkey After the Bengals Thanksgiving Win
Joe Burrow’s return to the Cincinnati Bengals after an injury-prone season has certainly buoyed the spirits of his teammates. Their win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving was unexpected, but certainly welcomed. Joe Burrow, however, did not welcome the customary Thanksgiving sideline meal. While he was happy to carve a turkey after the game, he revealed he didn’t eat any of it. Burrow assured everyone he was perfectly OK with that.
Joe Burrow admitted he didn’t indulge in any post-game turkey
Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals might have beaten the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving, but he still went home hungry. The iconic signal caller chatted with reporters after the game. During the conversation, he admitted he had opted not to enjoy the sideline meal his teammates indulged in. He was happy enough to cut up the turkey and hand out slices.
Burrow told reporters that he didn’t eat the turkey because he didn’t know where it came from or how it had been prepared. It’s unclear if the 28-year-old quarterback has a food allergy or simply objects to eating food of unknown origins. He was perfectly fine with that decision, though. Burrow told reporters that while he didn’t have any of the turkey being handed out, he did munch on a pepper before heading to the press conference.
He wasn’t interested in the crab, either.
Joe Burrow’s objection to outside food was not limited to the turkey that materialized on the sideline after the game, either. The quarterback was criticized for his reaction to the crab being handed out to players after the win. In a filmed moment, Burrow looked unsure about the crab that was handed to him. After he gave it a little sniff, he gave it to someone else, opting out of that post-game food option, too. We assume Burrow grabbed something to eat once he left the stadium.
While it is unclear why Burrow passed on the crustacean, it might have a little something to do with his diet. Burrow, much like several other high-performing quarterbacks, opts for a pretty strict diet during the NFL season. According to Business Insider, he followed a dairy-free diet in 2022 to keep inflammation at bay. It’s possible that diet is still in play, which would mean anything with butter is out of the question.
