Benny Blanco’s feet became a topic of debate late last month
In late February, Benny Blanco made waves on social media, and it wasn’t because people fell in love with his podcast. After Friends Keep Secret posted its first episode, viewers couldn’t help but notice just how filthy Benny Blanco’s bare feet were.
Blanco, who fans have dubbed Don Seleno after he went public with Selena Gomez, sat down with co-host Lil Dicky to chat, while kicking his feet up on the couch. His bare soles, visible to everyone, were nearly black with dirt and grime. Viewers were horrified when he rubbed the dirt on the light colored couch while seemingly unaware of just how dirty his bare soles were.
After the clip went viral, the world debated what Blanco’s problem was and whether Selena Gomez should reconsider her romance because of the infraction. They questioned the cleanliness of the couple’s home and Blanco’s manners, too. The songwriter was completely aware that things had gotten a bit out of hand, though. He later addressed the controversy.
Benny Blanco tried to explain away the unhygienic state of his feet
Benny Blanco had no trouble throwing his friend and co-host under the bus for the entire dirty feet saga. Blanco, along with Lil Dicky, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! just days after the dirty feet debate began. During the chat, Blanco defended his feet, blaming the “facilities” for his extra-crusty soles. The “facilities” that Blanco was referring to were Lil Dicky’s house, where the podcast was filmed.
Lil Dicky and Blanco were in the mood to clear the songwriter’s name. Lil Dicky agreed that, with crew coming in and out of the house, it’s possible the floors at his house were especially dirty. Blanco even came prepared to prove to everyone that the situation was a one-off. He must have spent extra time in the shower with a pumice stone and some good soap the morning of the show, because he happily ripped off his shoes and socks to reveal a pretty clean foot.
While the explanation is plausible enough, fans are still a bit unsure about why Blanco was walking around completely barefoot in another person’s home, and, more importantly, why he was so comfortable putting his bare feet on the furniture the way he did.
The drama didn’t end there, though
Benny Blanco’s explanation for his very dirty feet during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live should have put the drama to bed. After all, he showed off clean toes during the appearance and provided a reasonable explanation for what went wrong. People looking for an explanation got one, and critics could continue hating on the songwriter. We should have all moved on, but Selena Gomez made sure that didn’t happen.
Gomez appeared on the second episode of Friends Keep Secrets and seemed to make a point of drawing attention to her husband’s feet. The camera caught the Only Murders in the Building star kissing Blanco’s toe during a luil in conversation. The episode, which aired on March 3, reignited comments about Blanco’s feet, his propensity to be barefoot, and what Gomez’s little peck really means. To be fair, though, Blanco’s feet did seem cleaner in episode two than they did in the premiere episode, though that was not a difficult feat.
