Some dates seem lucky and others seem unlucky in love. December 31 is a pretty popular day for major, positive relationship milestones, with new couples forming or moving their relationship forward on the cusp of the new year. Just three weeks earlier in the year is the unluckiest day for love. December 11 is known as “Breakup Day” because of the sheer number of couples who call it quits on that date. Over the years, several celebrity couples have called it quits around the infamous date.

Cardi B went public with her split from Offset on Breakup Day

Cardi B and Offset’s divorce is still ongoing, but she’s very much moved on. The “WAP” singer has welcomed a new baby with Stefon Diggs, and fans think marriage could be on the table again. Just a couple of years ago, though, she was announcing her split from Offset. Cardi B went public with her breakup on December 11, 2023, announcing that she and Offset were ending their marriage. Though they remained entangled for many more months, she did eventually file to end the union in July 2024, months before their third child was born.

Interestingly enough, Cardi B and Offset had multiple breakups, with another announced in December. In early December 2018, Cardi B announced the end of her relationship. They, of course, went on to reconcile, but it’s interesting that they would split twice around the infamous date.

Dove Cameron and Thomas Doherty announced their split on December 11

Dove Cameron and Thomas Doherty were together for four years after meeting on the set of a movie. Their young love was the talk of the town, with fans insisting they were simply made for each other. It wasn’t actually meant to be, though. They split after four years together, announcing the end of the romance on December 11, 2020, making them casualties of the famous Breakup Day.

Doherty and Cameron have both insisted there wasn’t a lot of drama surrounding their split, and appear to remain supportive of each other. Still, Cameron later reflected on the end of the romance, insisting it affected her deeply and influenced her career.

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan also split around Breakup Day

Sabrina Carpenter had a truly impressive 2025, but the end of 2024 came with a major breakup for the “Please Please Please” singer. Carpenter and Barry Keoghan’s split became public fodder around December 5, with rumors suggesting the pair were taking a break. While an official split announcement was not made, Keoghan more or less confirmed the breakup around December 8 when he deactivated his social media accounts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Dunkirk actor deactivated his account because of the “negativity” and harassment surrounding the split.

Keoghan’s public persona has always been significantly more private than Carpenter’s, and he’s kept a low profile since the split. Carpenter, on the other hand, has catapulted to fame. Fans largely suspect one of her popular songs is about the actor. Carpenter has never commented on whether “Manchild” is about him, though.

Alix Earle and Braxton Berrios got their breakup in a few days before the official Breakup Day. Earle, an influencer, and Berrios, an NFL star, didn’t announce their split initially, but fans were quick to clock drama when Berrios failed to appear at the Dancing with the Stars finale to support Earle. While she initially claimed he had football commitments, fans read between the lines.
