After news made the rounds that Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., was hospitalized and had emergency surgery, including a leg amputation, many wondered if the duchess was going to visit or at least reach out to her dad.

Meghan’s half-brother publicly challenged the Suits alum to “show some compassion” and contact their father. Meghan’s team responded and said that she did reach out to him. But that was news to Thomas, Meghan’s half-siblings, and the hospital.

Here’s more on that, plus what Thomas has just asked his daughter from his hospital bed.

Meghan’s rep clarifies ‘contact’ claim after Thomas Markle says she did not reach out

Following the reports about Meghan’s father’s condition, many wondered if the duchess would get in touch with him. Her team soon let everyone know that she had contacted her father. But within hours, Thomas and the hospital staff refuted that claim.

Thomas said that he was pretty “confused” by the reports that his Meghan had attempted to reach him and insisted that he had not changed his number and had not received any messages from her.

Moreover, hospital staffers told The Daily Mail: “Mr Markle is a VIP patient. Of course we all know who he is. If Meghan or anyone connected with her had called here, we would have known. It is a big hospital by Filipino standards, but we all know each other and we all talk. We were all confused when we saw the story that the duchess had reached out to her dad. As far as we are aware, it didn’t happen. We would love to see the duchess here in the Philippines!”

A spokesperson for Meghan then clarified that “the duchess had, in fact, “emailed her father” and “had they asked — particularly in light of the quotes they relied upon from Mr. Markle and hospital staff — we would simply have told them to ask Mr. Markle to check his email.”

Meghan reportedly wrote to an email address which had not been used “for at least five years” as Thomas stressed that he “never uses email.”

Thomas previously made a plea to Meghan before he left the United States and moved to the Philippines earlier this year.

“I don’t like some of the things my daughter has done but I will always love her. My door is always open to her. I love her and that will never change,” he said, adding, “My dream is that one day I could bring my whole family together, like a ‘normal’ family.”

Now though Thomas is admitting that he doesn’t know how much time he has left and is pleading with Meghan from his hospital bed, saying, “I have never stopped loving her. I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan.”

Thomas added that he wants “to meet my grandkids [Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet]” before it is too late, and “It might be nice to meet her husband [Prince Harry] too.”

Many people weighed in on social media and do not believe that Meghan has any intention of hopping on a private jet to go see her father. But she can prove them all wrong if she does.
