Tim Gunn Joins Lenny Kravitz and Julia Fox on Hollywood’s Growing List of Celibate Celebrities

Tim Gunn has been celibate for more than 40 years. The Project Runway alum made the shocking admission during a podcast interview, sparking plenty of conversation. It also has us remembering that while Gunn’s decision seems a bit unique, it’s not all that uncommon. At the very least, several other celebrities have revealed they are celibate as well in recent years.

Tim Gunn makes a shocking admission about celibacy

Tim Gunn is getting really honest about his romantic life, or lack thereof. The Project Runway star recently sat down for an interview with Chelsea Handler. During an episode of Dear Chelsea, Gunn opened up, seemingly unexpectedly, abouth is love life. The competition TV star said he’s been celibate for more than 40 years.

Gunn explained that in his youth, he was in a relationship that ended in heartbreak and betrayal. After nine years together, he said, he learned his ex had been cheating on him. The relationship ended, and Gunn opted to remain celibate thereafter. Remember the breakup, he told Handler, “I was beside myself with self-flagellation and self-pity, and it was awful.”

While the decision stemmed from heartbreak, Gunn insists this is the way things were meant to be. In fact, he argues he wouldn’t have lived his life any differently. He’s not the only celebrity who has made the choice, either.

These celebrities are celibate, too

Tim Gunn’s admission of celibacy has been met with awe and plenty of debate from fans. Still, he’s not the only celebrity who has announced that they are celibate. Lenny Kravitz and Julia Fox famously abstain from sex. Orlando Bloom took a break from sex at one point, too. Even Khloe Kardashian and 50 Cent have both discussed periods of celibacy in the past.

Lenny Kravitz is among the most famous celibate celebrities. Kravitz, now 60, has been celibate for a bit more than a decade. Back in May 2024, he revealed he had been celibate for 9 years and that it was a “spiritual thing,” during a chat with The Guardian. He had discussed abstaining from sex in years past, as well.

Julia Fox opened up about feeling empowered by her decision to remain celibate. Back in 2024, during a podcast interview, Fox said that she had been celibate for more than two years and enjoyed not having to interact with men in that way. In 2025, she clarified her stance during an interview with Glamour. She noted that she thinks the term “celibate” has religious connotations, and there is nothing religious about her decision. She quipped that she just couldn’t find anyone she “wanted to f**k.”

50 Cent voluntarily entered a period of celibacy to focus on his career. He also discussed the decision in several interviews. Most recently, Khloe Kardashian revealed she has been voluntarily celibate since 2021. She noted that she’s focusing on motherhood and doesn’t have time for romance, despite rumors constantly swirling about her relationship status.
