Fans quickly noticed that her Instagram story featured a long-debunked conspiracy theory about Michelle Obama. The theory suggests the former first lady was born male.
The conspiracy theory, construed as an offensive dig at the Obamas, stayed up on Chilli’s stories for the full 24-hour cycle before it expired. According to People, she later came forward, claiming the meme was reposted by accident and that she was unaware it had ended up on her profile. It was, in fact, the first time Chilli had posted something of that nature. She apologized.

While most people accepted Chilli’s explanation for the post, her political affiliations were questioned later the same month. Last week, it was revealed that Chilli had made a donation during the 2024 election cycle. The donation, totaling less than $2,000, was connected to Donald Trump’s campaign.
Considering the meme she reposted earlier in the month, it didn’t take long for followers to assume her political beliefs. The assumptions coincided with major political happenings, including the No Kings protest and Nick Cannon’s political conversation with Amber Rose. Cannon and Rose’s chat ended with him proclaiming that he “f***s” with Donald Trump.
Chilli took to social media to set the record straight
Chilli has come forward to clear some things up about her political beliefs, well, at least sort of. The R&B artist took to Instagram over the weekend to share that she is not affiliated with the MAGA movement. Chilli revealed that her donations were a mistake and that she is not aligned with the sitting president’s policies.
In her post, Chilli claimed that she failed to read the fine print before making a donation. She said, at the time, she believed she was donating to support veterans and to end human trafficking. Chilli does not appear interested in offering further commentary on her political beliefs or the current political climate.
