She bonded with the Cruise, and while they haven’t worked together since, he still remembers her each year on her birthday. Fanning recently revealed that Cruise has sent her the same gift each year since. The first birthday gift he ever gave her was different, though.

When Dakota Fanning was just 10 years old, she starred alongside Tom Cruise in a movie. Since then, they’ve had a warm relationship. During a recent visit to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Fanning revealed that Cruise has sent her a very nice pair of shoes for every single one of her last 19 birthdays. The birthday shoes began arriving on her 12th birthday.
As for why he sent her shoes, Fanning doesn’t know exactly, but she did say she was very excited by shoes when they worked together, especially as she had just grown into women’s sizing. Fanning didn’t reveal too many details. She didn’t specify the brand or style of the shoes or how he knew what she was into at the time. But she did mention that the Hollywood icon has adapted over the years to ensure he’s gifting her with the correct size shoes. Fanning will turn 32 in February, and we can assume her 20th pair of shoes from Tom Cruise will arrive in short order.

That doesn’t mean Cruise left the then pre-teen out in the cold waiting for a birthday present. He still gave her a very nice gift, albeit one that wasn’t exactly suited to her age. Fanning told Andy Cohen that Cruise gifted her a Motorola Razr for her 11th birthday. The phone was all the rage at the time. But as she noted, she had no one to call as she was just 11.
The timing makes perfect sense. The original Razr was released in 2004 and was the hottest phone on the market at the time. Its thin profile and color screen had cell phone enthusiasts absolutely mesmerized. The phone was released just months before Fanning turned 11 and would have been one of the most sought-after gadgets at the time.
