Tory Lanez is still recovering from a prison attack that could have easily taken his life. His legal team, however, is using the publicity from the melee to further advocate for Lanez, insisting that there is new evidence that proves he was not the person who shot Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez has even spoken out to assert his alleged innocence. In a series of leaked texts, Lanez claims that he took the fall for Kelsey Harris. He said he was trying to “protect two black women.”

After news that Lanez was attacked inside the California Correctional Institution, the supermax facility where he is serving a decade behind bars, broke, his legal team stepped forward to present new evidence. His team claims that Kelsey Harris’s former bodyguard overheard Harris admitting to firing the gun that wounded Megan. The bodyguard allegedly asserted that Harris fired three shots at Megan before Lanez tried to end the assault by knocking the gun from her hand.

There is apparently even more to the story. Tory Lanez has been proclaiming his innocence via text messages from prison, too. According to The Shade Room, Jason Lee claims he has been in contact with Lanez while behind bars. During a recent podcast episode, Lee alleged that Lanez told him he’d be coming home this year. The rapper insists he is innocent.

When asked why he would confess to shooting Megan Thee Stallion if he didn’t pull the trigger, Lanez insisted he was protecting others. He said, ““I took the rap for Kelsey, never wanted her to go to jail and I never wanted Megan to get hurt or anything, so in me stopping her from getting shot I got the raw deal.” Lanez continiued, insisting that he was in jail because, ” they made me the poster boy for the un-protection of Black women. When, in all honesty, I protected two Black women. ”

Lanez’s legal team insists he never fired any shots and didn’t own the gun that wounded Megan Thee Stallion. Megan Thee Stallion has been largely quiet about the issue, but her lawyer did issue a statement. Her lawyer, Alex Spiro, said, “Tory Lanez was tried and convicted by a jury of his peers and his case was properly adjudicated through the court system.”

Who exactly is Kelsey Harris?

Kelsey Harris is Megan Thee Stallion’s ex-friend and former assistant. She is also a musical artist. Harris was granted immunity for her testimony in Tory Lanez’s trial.

While she testified against Lanezm, there were issues with her statement. It has been argued that there were inconsistencies and a lack of detail in her testimony. For example, she never definitively identified the shooter. Harris and Megan Thee Stallion’s icy relationship following the trial has also raised some eyebrows. In short, there has been significant speculation about her real role in the incident. Harris has not commented on the new allegations.

Tor Lanez was convicted on gun charges and sentenced to spend a decade in prison in 2022. The shooting incident that led to his arrest occurred in December 2020, after a party at Kylie Jenner’s house.
