Her fiancé, Travis Kelce, was not along for the ride. While some fans were shocked to see the newly-engaged Swift flying solo to the rumored event, there is a good reason for it. Travis Kelce was hosting a charity car show in Kansas City, while Swift arrived in California. However, even without the conflict, Kelce’s job makes it almost impossible for him to attend the wedding anyway. The Kansas City Chiefs have strict rules for players leading up to game day, and the star tight end is expected to follow them. The Chiefs organization is unlikely to bend the rules, even for a star-studded wedding. So, what do those rules look like before a game?
The timing of Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s wedding won’t work with Travis Kelce’s 11 pm curfew
The biggest roadblock for Travis Kelce to attend Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s wedding is his curfew. The night before a game, he must be in his hotel room by 11 pm. Mecole Hardman Jr.’s fiancée, Chariah Gordon, told People that all players must follow a strict curfew. It applies to both home and away games. They also have to be in the city where they are playing the next day while adhering to that curfew. If it is an away game, they are expected to travel only with the team. All of those rules would pose a massive problem for Kelce.
While Kelce doesn’t have to contend with away game travel, the other issues apply. The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on September 28. The Blanco-Gomez wedding is expected to take place in Montecito on September 27. To make it work, Kelce would need to fly out for the wedding late on Friday night or early on Saturday morning, only to turn around and return to his team all before 11 pm CST. Considering that the couple’s wedding likely won’t even kick off until the early evening in California, Kelce simply won’t be able to spend any time at the event without missing his curfew. Flying back the morning of his game is, obviously, out of the question.
While he’s attended weddings with Swift in the past, they’ve always fallen on off days. Last year, the pair appeared in New York City in September to celebrate the marriage of Karen Elson and Lee Foster. While the wedding fell on a Saturday, Kelce had played a Thursday night football game. His game schedule freed him up to let loose on a Saturday. The schedule didn’t work out this time around, though.
Partying is strictly prohibited ahead of game days
While his curfew poses the biggest problem, there is another team rule that makes Travis Kelce’s attendance extremely unlikely. Chariah Gordon also spilled the tea on the team’s take on alcohol. According to Gordon, both stars and rookies must also follow a strict policy on alcohol. She said the Kansas City Chiefs players are not allowed to consume any alcohol in the day leading up to a game. Partying of any kind is frowned upon.
Because Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s wedding is sure to include alcohol, plenty of rich food, and a lot of partying, Travis Kelce will need to sit this one out. The tight end will likely be sitting down for a team meal on Sunday, alcohol free, hours before anyone who attended the nuptials of the musical power couple opens their eyes.
