Travis Kelce Had People Setting Up His Backyard for Proposal While Taylor Swift Was Distracted During Her ‘New Heights’ Podcast Appearance
After Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post with photos of the NFL star down on one knee, a close-up of the “Karma” singer’s ring, and the playful caption “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” fans began guessing when the actual proposal took place.
On Aug. 26, the same day the couple shared their happy news, Kelce’s father Ed filled in that blank, providing a timeframe telling News 5 in Cleveland, “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago.”
That nearly two-week timeline dates back to when Swift appeared on her beau and his brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast on Aug. 13. And now, it’s been confirmed that was the day Kelce popped the question.
Here’s how the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was able to pull it off without Swift suspecting a thing, and how many Swifties had already figured out that was the day he did it.
Kelce had people working on his garden while Swift was doing the ‘New Heights’ podcast
Page Six has confirmed that Kelce asked Swift to marry him not long after her appearance on his New Heights podcast.
“He knew that he wanted to marry her. [The date] was just a matter of when the timing was right,” an insider told the outlet. “It was less about the significance of the time and [more about] when he could actually do it in between her tour and his season.”
One of the reasons Kelce chose to do it that day is because he knew, thanks to the podcast plans, that Swift would “already be in hair and makeup,” perfect for engagement photos.
The proposal took place in the backyard of the athlete’s Leawood, Kansas home. But his yard wasn’t always as lush as it was in the engagement photos. According to the Daily Mail, he had a few plants and a wrought iron gazebo with a bench. He also had wood chips covering the ground. A team was hired to come and create a botanical garden setting while Swift was distracted filming the podcast with him.
So while the songbird was seated next to her man for those two hours, Kelce had people hard at work turning his backyard into a magical floral wonderland where he could propose to his Juliet.
Clues fans spotted that pointed to Kelce proposing after the podcast concluded
But some Swifties were already convinced the day of the podcast was when Kelce did it.
One clue the pop star’s fans picked up on in the engagement photos was that they could see headphone indentations on her ears, believed to be from the set Swift was wearing during the show.
They also pointed out that the nude manicure on her nails, her makeup, and her hairstyle were the same in the announcement photos as they were on the podcast. Moreover, she was wearing the same diamond-studded Cartier Santos Demoiselle watch when Travis asked for her hand in marriage as when she was on the episode.
