Travis Kelce is a multimillionaire now. His on-field prowess has ensured he keeps cashing larger and larger NFL checks. The NFL isn’t the only way he makes money, though. As his popularity has grown, so have his off-the-field opportunities and, by proxy, his bank account. Kelce seems to have a handle on his finances these days, but he’s said that it wasn’t always the case. In fact, he’s admitted to “blowing” his rookie paycheck on as many flashy items as he could dream up. A very special pair of sneakers was one of the first things Travis Kelce bought, and he spent a lot of money on them.

Travis Kelce is the owner of a pair of Nike Marty McFlys

Travis Kelce has admitted to going a bit wild with his first NFL paycheck. He has been open about how little financial restraint he showed as a new player multiple times, but really delved into how he spent his rookie paycheck during an episode of New Heights, the podcast he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. Kelce said he purchased just about everything he always coveted.

During his admission, Travis Kelce said that one of the first things he did with his money was purchase the famous Nike Air Mag worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future. The highly coveted sneakers were produced only twice for use outside of a movie set, in limited quantities. The shoes were released in 2011 as part of a charity event. Only 1500 pairs were sold, and $10 million was raised for Parkinson’s Disease research. Michael J. Fox, who famously played Marty McFly, has been battling the neurodegenerative disease for decades. In 2016, a self-lacing version was sold via $10 lottery tickets. Only 89 pairs were produced.

Kelce’s pair, purchased with his rookie contract money, was the 2011 charity release. While the shoes lack the self-lacing properties that made kids across the world swoon, they are still worth thousands. During a separate podcast appearance, Kylie Kelce quipped that Jason Kelce would have never spent $10,000 on shoes, but she thought they were “so cool.” Travis Kelce still owns the sneakers, and they have gone up in value.

He isn’t the only celebrity to have coveted the kicks, either

Travis Kelce made his sneaker dreams come true when he purchased the Marty McFlys. He has purchased hundreds of pairs since and has amassed a giant sneaker collection. Kelce isn’t alone in that interest, though. He is one of many celebrity shoe aficionados, and the most dedicated of those collectors also own the Marty McFlys.

Kid Cudi and Justin Bieber have both shown off their pairs. Michael J. Fox was gifted the first pair of self-lacing shoes that made headlines in 2016, and Mark Wahlberg owns both versions. Tom Holland received a pair as a gift, and Kevin Hart has been seen stomping around town in the Marty McFlys. A pair owned by Kobe Bryant was auctioned off for charity following his death in 2020.
