Tyler Duckworth Reunited With ‘Challenge’ Castmates Just 11 Days Before His Death
Tyler Duckworth, the two-time The Challenge champion, has died. Duckworth’s mother paid tribute to her 44-year-old son on Instagram, confirming his sudden passing. While details of his cause of death remain unclear, nothing appeared amiss the last time the alum appeared at a public event, less than two weeks before his death.
A reunion just days before his death
Tyler Duckworth’s sudden death took fans and his former castmates by surprise. The shock settled into debate about whether anything was amiss the last time he appeared at a show-related event. Duckworth, 44, attended The Challenge Mania, a fan convention in Minneapolis, on July 31. He shared photos from the event on his Instagram account and seemed genuinely happy to be with his former castmates. Paulie Calafiore, who competed with Duckworth, referenced the event in his own tribute to Duckworth, writing that he was “so full of life here.”
The convention drew thousands of fans to the Twin Cities area. There were no issues at the event, with the weekend progressing fairly seamlessly. Duckworth returned home to North Dakota sometime in August. His post from the weekend in Minneapolis turned out to be his final upload. Duckworth shared a fair bit of his life on Instagram, focusing his posts around fitness, sports, and the people most important to him.
Tyler Duckworth’s “Challenge” legacy
Tyler Duckworth might be best known for his work on The Challenge, but he appeared on a different MTV series first. The reality TV star first appeared on The Real World: Key West before moving on to The Challenge, a natural progression for many MTV stars. He went on to compete across six seasons, winning the competition twice. First, he took home the big win on The Challenge: Cutthroat in 2010. The following year, he won The Challenge: Rivals. Duckworth was considered one of the show’s most accomplished competitors.
While he took a long break from reality TV, he did return for more seasons of The Challenge more recently. He appeared in All Stars 2 in 2021 and All Stars 3 in 2022. He remained active in the fan community.
A cause of death has not yet been announced. Officials told TMZ that Duckworth was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub in his apartment. The discovery occurred after a neighbor alerted a maintenance worker that there was water leaking from the unit. The initial call came in just before noon on August 11. Police do not suspect foul play.
