Hunt just revealed that the lack of wedding bells has nothing to do with him; in fact, he’s already asked his longtime partner to be his bride. He thinks she could use a bit of encouragement to say yes.

Van Hunt and Halle Berry appeared on Today on June 4th. The longtime duo chatted a lot about their lives and careers before Van Hunt admitted he had already asked Halle Berry to marry him. Hunt joked that Berry didn’t answer, quipping that the proposal was floating out in space somewhere just waiting for an answer. He suggested his love might need a bit of encouragement to say yes.
The proposal might not have gotten an enthusiastic yes from Berry immediately, but she also didn’t exactly turn down the songwriter’s proposition. Berry insists that she thinks they will get married eventually, stating, “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married.” She doesn’t seem all that interested in nailing down a date, though. It’s not the first time she’s discussed her reluctance to wed again.
How did Halle Berry and Van Hunt meet?
Halle Berry and Van Hunt first linked up in 2020, thanks to Hunt’s brother, who worked for Berry’s wellness company, Respin. Berry revealed that he played matchmaker. According to People, they chatted for a while before meeting up, where sparks flew. In September 2020, Berry made it official via social media. Since then, the duo has been inseparable.
Hunt accompanied Berry to the 2021 Academy Awards, and they’ve both spoken openly about their romance multiple times. Berry even once described Hunt as “her person” and regularly features him on social media. Just a few days ago, Berry took to Instagram to share a series of photos featuring Hunt, captioning the upload ‘sharing my world with my BFF.’ While the couple shares a very obvious bond, marriage isn’t on Berry’s mind, and she has her reasons for it.

While Van Hunt is ready to make it official with Halle Berry, she’s far more reluctant to walk down the aisle again. Berry has been burned by bad marriages before, which is why she’s left the proposal hanging in mid-air.
Berry has been married three times, but none of those marriages made it to the five-year mark. In 1993, she married David Justice, a famed baseball player. They divorced in 1997. For years, fans assumed Justice had been physically abusive towards Berry after she sought a restraining order against him. He insists he was never physically abusive towards her. They have not spoken in years.
In 2001, she married Eric Benét. They split in 2005 after Berry learned that he had been unfaithful. She later had a long-term relationship with Gabriel Aubry. They welcomed a child together but never married. In 2013, she married Olivier Martinez. Berry and Martinez called it quits in 2015 after welcoming their son.
Van Hunt has been married once before, but the details of that marriage are not publicly known. Considering his interest in heading down the aisle again, the end of his union was likely more amicable than Berry’s.
