Victoria Beckham Gets a No. 1 Song for the 1st Time After Brooklyn Beckham’s Explosive Statement
While some people have sided with Brooklyn Beckham after his bombshell statement, the recent chart success of a Victoria Beckham song proves she still has supporters. In a post to his Instagram Stories, Brooklyn wrote about his parents and explained why he no longer wants a relationship with them. In response, some of Victoria’s fans have rallied around her.
A Victoria Beckham song is charting again
In the days after Brooklyn posted his statement, Victoria’s fans began a campaign to get her a No. 1 single. She was previously the only Spice Girl not to have a solo No. 1. Fans encouraged people to listen to her 2001 solo song, “Not Such an Innocent Girl.”
The campaign has been a success. “Not Such an Innocent Girl” hit No. 1 on iTunes charts in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Victoria’s son, Cruz, who has sided with his parents in the familial rift, joined in on the promotional effort. On Thursday, he posted the song to his Instagram Story.
Brooklyn Beckham accused his parents of being overly concerned with image
The promotional campaign for “Not Such an Innocent Girl” kicked off, of course, because of Brooklyn’s statement. In a six-page post, he accused his parents of trying to ruin his relationship with Nicola Peltz, and claimed Victoria danced inappropriately at his wedding. He also claimed his parents were overly concerned with crafting their image.
“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,” he wrote. “The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.”
He claimed that their focus was on building their brand rather than fostering genuine relationships.
“My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first,” he wrote. “Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.”
Brooklyn said he has no interest in reconciling with his parents.
Victoria Beckham admitted releasing songs was never her passion
Victoria got her start in the music industry, but she has moved on to a successful fashion career. She said that watching Elton John perform made her realize music had never been her passion.
“Remember years ago, watching your dear friend Elton John on stage in Las Vegas,” she wrote in an open letter to her future self for Vogue. “He performed ‘Tiny Dancer,’ as if it were the first time, and you realised this was like oxygen for him. It was a life-changing moment — while singing and dancing was fun for you, it wasn’t your passion.”
She admitted it was “terrifying” to leave the Spice Girls, but said it was the right move.
