When Did Shia LaBeouf Move to New Orleans?
Shia LaBeouf’s Big Easy arrest made headlines, with most fans assuming the semi-retired actor was simply vacationing in New Orleans and let the vibes get the best of him. As it turns out, that’s not the case. LaBeouf is actually a resident of the city, having moved to New Orleans for a fresh start. Apparently, he’s pretty dedicated to sticking around, too. He even purchased property in the iconic party town. Here’s everything we know about the move so far.
Shia LaBeouf has been living in New Orleans since December
Shia LaBeouf was back in court in New Orleans to answer for his Mardi Gras arrest. A judge has ordered the star to seek treatment after the drunken assault that made headlines. LaBeouf wasn’t just a visitor in the city when the messy late-night arrest took place. He’s actually been living in New Orleans for months.
According to TMZ, LaBeouf laid out around $1 million for a three-bedroom home back in December. While the house is in New Orleans, it’s pretty far from the famous action of the French Quarter. LaBeouf’s home is in the much more laidback and very upscale Uptown neighborhood, known for its walkability and mansions.
He moved to the city for a ‘fresh start’
Shia LaBeouf’s sudden interest in New Orleans was apparently connected to his split from Mia Goth. According to several sources, LaBeouf set down roots in NOLA, hoping for a fresh start after his big breakup with the mother of his child. He had been living in Los Angeles prior to the move. He and Goth were together, off and on, for over 10 years.
LaBeouf and Goth have had a pretty rocky relationship over the years. The former flames began dating back in 2012 after meeting on a film set. In 2018, the pair split, with LaBeouf very publicly dating other women. In 2020, they linked back up and reconciled. They kept their relationship quiet. In 2022, they welcomed a child together, and things seemed to be going pretty well, with LaBeouf celebrating years of sobriety. They split sometime in late 2025.
Police had interacted with him before his big arrest
While Shia LaBeouf’s arrest for causing a disturbance during Mardi Gras made headlines, it apparently wasn’t the first time he’d had a chat with law enforcement professionals since his move to the Big Easy. According to TMZ, LaBeouf met with New Orleans police weeks before his arrest for an alleged assault, though he was not the aggressor that time.
According to police records, officers arrived at a New Orleans home belonging to LaBeouf after he reported being assaulted by an ex-girlfriend. LaBeouf told responding officers that the woman, whose name was not made public, attacked him and hit him in the genitals. He said they had dated for about a month in late 2025.
LaBeouf was also recorded while out on the town the same month. Though he was, once again, not aggressive in the clip, the clearly inebriated LaBeouf ranted about various topics while socializing with partygoers.
