Jace Evans’ recent mental health struggles are rumored to stem from learning his mother, Jenelle Evans, had reconnected with her ex-husband, David Eason. While Evans and Eason haven’t confirmed they are back together, it’s pretty obvious that love is in the air. Eason, currently awaiting trial for allegedly abusing the teen while they lived in the same home, has been flaunting his time in Nevada on social media. Still, his criminal case is pending, and Teen Mom fans suspect that this is why he’s romancing his former spouse again. So, when exactly is David Eason due back in court? It’s pretty soon.
David Eason is still dealing with serious criminal charges stemming from a 2023 incident
David Eason’s very long and very winding criminal case appears to be moving slowly towards a conclusion. While Eason’s trial for felony strangulation and misdemeanor child abuse charges was slated to start in January, it was postponed. Still, things are moving along.
According to The Ashley Reality Roundup Group, Eason’s lawyer met with the judge and prosecutors for an administrative hearing in February, though Eason was not present during the hearing. While no decision was reached, the outlet reported that a private meeting in the Judge’s chambers lasted hours. That could be a sign that a plea deal is on the table. There has been no update on the troubled North Carolina native’s trial date, but he does have another court date next month. An additional administrative hearing is set for April 6.

While Jenelle Evans and David Eason are opting not to reveal their relationship status, they certainly aren’t hiding it very well. From the moment David surfaced in Nevada, it was clear that a little romance was part of thier plan. Teen Mom fans questioned his motives. Critics noted that David Eason appeared to be en route to the state while his lawyer was in court discussing his child abuse charges.
Now that a full-blown relationship seems to be happening behind the scenes, fans and followers are weighing in. Critics suspect he might have decided to reconnect with his ex-wife as a strategic move in his criminal case. Now that they are “in love” again, she certainly wouldn’t dare say anything bad about him or the events that led to this entire sordid mess in the first place. As long as the romance lasts through the conclusion of the case, such a strategy might just work. At the very least, it couldn’t hurt, one would assume.
As Teen Mom fans may remember, David Eason was arrested in October 2023. The arrest came afterJace Evans told police Eason had assaulted him. The teen was removed from his mother’s home at that time. He was only placed back with his mother in February 2024, after she filed for legal separation from Eason. At the time, an insider claimed the separation was a ploy to get Jace back into the house. The split became real when Eason appeared to be having too much fun being single. Their divorce was finalized in August 2025. The seemingly rekindled things in late January 2026, just a few months after Eason’s very dramatic split from Kenleigh Heatwole.
