Whoopi Goldberg Begged an Audience to Stop Clapping for Jennifer Lopez
During Jennifer Lopez’s recent appearance on The View, Whoopi Goldberg was overwhelmed by the amount of applause the singer received. Lopez joined the show’s host to discuss her new movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman. Though she’s endured some bad press over the past year, the crowd made it clear that they were happy to see her. Lopez appreciated their warm reception. Goldberg, however, did not.
Whoopi Goldberg asked her audience to stop applauding Jennifer Lopez
On Oct. 7, Lopez made an appearance on The View to discuss her role in Kiss of the Spider Woman. As she walked out to join Goldberg and the other hosts, the crowd burst into applause. Even after she sat down, the crowd continued to clap, with people shouting, “We love you, J.Lo!”
The crowd got to their feet and began chanting “J.Lo, J.Lo, J.Lo, J.Lo!” This prompted Goldberg to stand up and ask them to stop.
“Stop!” she told the crowd. “This is only an hour show!”
“Whoopi, it’s my hometown,” Lopez said as the host continued to work to quiet down the crowd.
“But, this is our gig and we want to talk to you so badly,” Goldberg responded.
The crowd eventually settled down, giving Lopez and the hosts of The View the chance to discuss the movie musical. Lopez has already received Oscar buzz for her role, though she said she’s not holding out hope for a nomination.
The Kiss of the Spider Woman comes to theaters on Oct. 10.
