At the top of the new year, folks across the music industry mourned the death of Lexxi Alijai. Over 20 days after she died, her cause of death has been revealed.

Lexii Alijai’s career was just getting started when she died

Alijai’s full name was Alexis Alijai Lynch. She was a rising rapper from Minnesota.  Her grandfather was influential Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Roger Troutman, founder of the Zapp band.

One of her biggest appearances was on the Kehlani‘s song, “Jealous,” a few years ago. It reached No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. She was also known for several covers, including songs from Drake, Tupac, Dej Loaf and more. Growing Pains, her first full-length project, was released in 2017.

Many singers, songwriters, and more lovingly remembered Alijai on social media when news of her passing was announced.

Kehlani posted on Twitter, “i’m angry i’m confused i’m heartbroken i’m angry i’m confused. i love you lexii. my baby was 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

In another tweet, she said, “this s**t was so much deeper than music that was my little sister.”

How Lexii Alijai died

E! News confirmed with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office that Alijai died from an overdose.

The office called it “result of mixed fentanyl and ethanol toxicity.” They also confirmed that her death was accidental. One of her cousins confirmed the news of her death on Facebook back when the news first surfaced.

It is unknown if any posthumous projects from the rapper will be released.
