Ina Garten is the go-to source for many when it comes to recipes for comfort food. Some of her best are for yummy, hearty soups that are perfect for the fall.  The Barefoot Contessa star has numerous cookbooks and blog posts that highlight these delicious dishes, and we’ve combed through them all.

It’s time to break out your crockpot or dutch oven because we’re sharing 10 of Garten’s very best.

10. Winter Minestrone and Garlic Bruschetta

Garten’s Winter Minestrone and Garlic Bruschetta is a hearty dish that’s loaded with veggies including butternut squash, tomatoes, carrots, celery, and onions. You can opt to make your chicken stock from scratch. But remember, store-bought is fine.

9. Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup

The five-star recipe for The Barefoot Contessa’s Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup calls for a long list of ingredients, including three different kinds of mushrooms. You’ll also need some intermediate cooking skills and about 20 minutes of prep time.

8. Butternut Squash and Apple Soup

From Garten’s Parties! cookbook, her recipe for Butternut Squash and Apple Soup makes 3 1/2 quarts. This makes it a great addition to a fall dinner party menu. The short list of ingredients includes butter, olive oil, yellow onions, curry powder, butternut squash, sweet apples, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, and apple juice or cider.

7. Lentil Sausage Soup

Another five-star recipe from Garten, this easy-to-make Lentil Sausage Soup features a kielbasa, veggies, spices, and homemade chicken stock. However, making homemade chicken stock can be time-consuming. And you need 5 pounds of chicken to make it. So don’t be afraid to substitute the store-bought version.

6. Mexican Chicken Soup

Garten loves her recipe for homemade chicken stock, and she prefers it for her Mexican Chicken Soup. Other ingredients include chicken breasts, garlic cloves, carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, cumin, coriander seed, fresh cilantro, and white corn tortillas. Serve with sliced avocado, sour cream, grated cheddar cheese, and tortilla chips.

5. Roasted Vegetable Soup

Put your fall and winter veggies to good use with Garten’s recipe for Roasted Vegetable Soup. This dish is loaded with carrots, sweet potatoes, parsnips, and butternut squash that are flavored with salt, pepper, parsley, and olive oil. Don’t skip out on the homemade brioche croutons because they make the dish.

4. East Hampton Clam Chowder

Another creamy soup dish from Garten that’s loaded with veggies is her East Hampton Clam Chowder. This recipe will give you the chance to brush up on your clam shucking skills. And don’t forget the clam juice because it is key to this chowder goodness.

3. Wild Mushroom and Farro Soup

The Barefoot Contessa’s recipe for Wild Mushroom and Farro Soup is great for crowds, and it’s one of her ideas for a make-ahead party menu. It’s also great when reheated, so feel free to make a batch for your family and freeze the leftovers.

“Pearled farro is a whole grain that is now available in most grocery and health food stores,” Garten says. “This soup with mushrooms, pancetta, and lots of vegetables is really hearty. I make it ahead, refrigerate it, and then reheat it, serving it with a dollop of crème fraîche and a swirl of Marsala wine.”

2. Cauliflower and Celery Root Soup

Another idea from Garten’s Make It Ahead: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook, her Cauliflower and Celery Root Soup can be refrigerated for up to one week or kept in the freezer for up to three months. The homemade croutons are good for up to five days.

1. Tomato Soup With Grilled Cheese Croutons

Nothing says fall like a grilled cheese dipped in tomato soup. Garten’s take on this comfort food comes in the form of Tomato Soup With Grilled Cheese Croutons, and it features some non-traditional ingredients. For the croutons you’ll need country white bread, unsalted butter, and Gruyere cheese. For the soup, make sure to have the following items on hand in your cupboard: olive oil, yellow onions, minced garlic, chicken stock, crushed tomatoes, saffron threads, salt, pepper, orzo, and heavy cream.
