The 2021 People’s Choice Awards took place on Dec. 7. At the award show, BTS were nominated for Group of 2021, Song of 2021, and Music Video of 2021. Unsurprisingly, BTS won in all three categories. The septet’s big wins at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards come just days after BTS held four sold-out concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

BTS won multiple awards at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards

Every year, the People’s Choice Awards pays homage to popular icons in entertainment, and fans vote for their favorite actors, TV shows, movies, artists, and music with an online poll.

In the Song of 2021 category, BTS’ song “Butter” won over “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran, “Easy on Me” by Adele, Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X, “Peaches” by Justin Bieber feat. Daniel Caesar and Giveon, “STAY” by The Kid LAROI and Bieber, and “Up” by Cardi B.

BTS also won Group of 2021 at the People’s Choice Awards. BTS beat Coldplay, Dan + Shay, Imagine Dragons, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, Migos, and Twenty One Pilots to win in the category.

Adele’s music video for “Easy on Me,” Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” music video, Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name” music video, The Kid LAROI and Bieber’s music video for “STAY,” Bieber, Caesar, and Giveon’s music video for “Peaches, and the music video for “Location” by Karol G, Anuel AA, and J Balvin were also nominated for Music Video of 2021.

BTS did not attend the People’s Choice Awards

While BTS were nominated for and took home three awards at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards, the band members did not attend the award show. This is because Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are currently enjoying an “extended” vacation.

On Nov. 27, Nov. 28, Dec. 1, and Dec. 2, BTS held four concerts called Permission to Dance On Stage – LA. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook then performed at 2021 KIIS-FM Jingle Ball on Dec. 3.

On Dec. 5, Big Hit Music announced that BTS will go on an “extended period of rest.” While it is unclear how long BTS’ vacation will be, Big Hit Music confirmed it will last through “the holiday season.”

In the statement, Big Hit Music wrote:

“This period of rest will provide the members of BTS who have tirelessly committed themselves to their activities, a chance to get re-inspired and recharge with creative energy. It will also be the first time for them since their debut to spend the holiday season with their families. We kindly ask once again that you show consideration for their need to enjoy ordinary and free, everyday lives while solely concentrating on themselves, albeit for a short while, during their period of rest.”

While it appears Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook will be taking a break throughout the remainder of 2021, the band will be busy in the new year. Big Hit Music’s statement confirmed BTS will release an album in 2022.

“BTS will be focusing on preparing for the concert and release of the new album that will mark the beginning of a ‘new chapter,'” Big Hit Music wrote in the announcement. “They are preparing for a concert this coming March to connect and communicate with the fans in-person in Seoul.”

BTS’ Permission to Dance On Stage – Seoul concerts will take place sometime in March 2022, and their upcoming album date is unconfirmed.
