Jack Antonoff won Producer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 2022 Grammy Awards

Before the 2022 Grammy Awards, Antonoff was already a five-time Grammy winner. He had notably won Song of the Year for “We Are Young” in 2013 and Album of the Year twice for his work on Taylor Swift‘s albums folklore and 1989.

At the 2022 Grammy Awards, Antonoff was nominated for Album of the Year for Swift’s album evermore, Best Alternative Music Album for St. Vincent’s album Daddy’s Home, and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.

During the Premiere Ceremony, Daddy’s Home won Best Alternative Music Album, and Antonoff won Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. With the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical award, Antonoff earned his seventh Grammy Award overall.

How Jack Antonoff picks his projects

Over the years, Antonoff has been acclaimed for his work producing for artists like Swift, St. Vincent, Lana Del Rey, and Lorde.

In the virtual media center for the 2022 Grammy Awards, Showbiz asked Antonoff what elements he looks for when taking on projects as a producer.

Antonoff responded:

“Mhm. It is hard to say because you’re looking for a feeling… You’re looking for like a one plus one equals a million when you’re collaborating. Because one plus one doesn’t even always equals two. Sometimes it can equal minus one. Two great people can get together and do something all wrong. So what I’m looking for is this feeling in my gut… It’s not an arrogant feeling, it’s a kind of bold feeling like, ‘Oh, I think we could really meet each other in a place that’s pretty amazing.’ And you get scared when you have the feeling, but it’s worth chasing. So it’s that feeling. But obviously the literal stuff of just you have to love what someone does, you know you have to love their voice, their timbre, the way they write, the way they think… But really this gut feeling that one plus one can equal a million.”
