What SZA learned from her collaboration with Doja Cat

Winning the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award marked SZA’s first Grammy win out of 14 nominations. Following her win, SZA stopped by the media center at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

From the virtual media center, Showbiz Cheat Sheet asked SZA what she learned from collaborating with Doja Cat on “Kiss Me More.”

“Um, she’s a star,” SZA replied. “And literally the first thing I asked when we got into it I was like, ‘How do you write? What’s your process?’ And I love people who write, and it’s something about the way that she just kind of freestyles genuine things from her brain. And when I write, I freestyle everything too.”

SZA credits the success of “Kiss Me More” to her and Doja Cat’s similarities as artists, and she went on to praise Doja Cat for “her powerhouseness.”

“So it was just crazy to meet somebody who even works similarly. But I think she’s so masterful at what she does. So I just, I just been able to really admire just her powerhouseness and the way that she just emotes from the brain, from the top, and kind of meet in the middle on that,” SZA told Showbiz.
