3 Major Character Introductions Possible in ‘Black Panther 2’: The MCU Continues to Expand
While most Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) installments open to the positive audience and critical reception, as well as box office triumph, few are nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Black Panther — reflecting on the West’s views of Africa and the preservation of identity — presented a film beautiful on the surface (exquisite customer design and cinematography) and at the core (thematic elements, narrative depth, and character dynamics).
In short, Black Panther 2 has some mighty big shoes to fill. However, if any recent theories surrounding the MCU installment turn out to be true, the movie may be planning to introduce some beloved characters as a way to ensure equal footing with its predecessor. So, who may be coming to the MCU via Black Panther 2? From a famous mutant to a Fantastic Four archnemesis, a few possibilities stand out as the most probable culprits.
3. Doctor Doom
According to We Got This Covered, well-known insider Charles Murphy has spilled the beans surrounding the Fantastic Four’s archnemesis. Victor Von Doom — previously portrayed by Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck, Premonition, Charmed — has a shot at becoming T’Challa’s next major opposer.
Charles Murphy explained that, in theory, Doom would be looking to expand his empire by invading parts of Africa, which will lead him straight to T’Challa when he attempts to conquer Wakanda.
If Doctor Doom appears in Black Panther 2, fans can expect that he won’t be killed off. Considering Doctor Doom has been teased as the MCU’s next “big baddie” — the man to follow Thanos — an appearance in the upcoming movie would likely be the first of a few. For, given the guy’s track record and comic book history, he won’t be taken down too easily.
2. Storm (Ororo Munroe)
A while back, Marvel and DC Insider Mikey Sutton revealed that Marvel Studios may be planning to bring in a beloved X-Men character via Black Panther. He revealed that the studio is eyeing Janelle Monáe for Storm. While the actress is not the only name on the list, the source suggests that she is high up on the totem pole.
Introducing Storm in Black Panther 2 would make sense — given the fact that she and T’Challa begin a whirlwind romance in the comics. They wind up getting married and divorced, which later finds Storm in a loving relationship with Wolverine!
As DigitalSpy notes, Avengers: Endgame dropped a few hints surrounding Marvel’s man of the sea. DigitalSpy explains that Namor has been on the studio’s mind since gaining access to the character in 2016. If Namor joined in Black Panther 2, he would presumably be threatening Wakanda via the sea.
Namor, similar to Doctor Doom, is a major character in Marvel comics; however, whether he would stick around to become a “big baddie” is another question. He may not have the clout; not to mention, he winds up working for both the good guys and the bad guys.
