Flay is a lifelong burger fan

The chef’s love of burgers is no secret: his Bobby’s Burger Palace and Bobby’s Burgers restaurants are a testament to the fact that Flay is “a burger man pure and simple,” as he wrote in his 2008 cookbook, Bobby Flay’s Grill It!

“I’d like to think that it doesn’t get much better than a juicy beef burger layered with a slice or two of cheese,” he added. “I’ve opened up to a world of delicious burgers made from turkey and chicken or buffalo, not to mention other savory preparations such as Mediterranean-inspired burgers.”

Here are three Food Network fan-approved recipes of Flay’s that show off his passion for the glorious burger.

Flay’s mouthwatering Cuban-Style Burgers on the Grill

Paying tribute to the Cuban sandwich, the Beat Bobby Flay star’s burger features mayonnaise, puréed roasted garlic, mustard, Swiss cheese, ham, and dill pickles. That’s in addition to good old ground chuck.

Flay calls for the mayonnaise and roasted garlic to be combined and slathered on the burger buns along with mustard. Once the meat has been cooked to a preferred level of doneness, it’s topped with slices of cheese, ham, pickle, and another slice of cheese. Then, it’s wrapped in foil, and pressed down on the grill with “a heavy pan or a brick wrapped in foil,” for a truly Cuban sandwich-style burger.

Over 100 five-star reviews on Food Network’s site agreed Flay’s burger is a winner. “The Cuban style burger has rekindled my love of hamburgers again,” one home cook wrote. Another added, “The flavors are an incredible combination, and what a great ‘take’ on the traditional Cuban sandwich!”

“I had never put watercress on my burger … what a wonderful alternative,” one of the burger’s over 50 reviews read.

Another fan wrote, “Amazing burger! The avocado relish is certainly the star of this burger.”
