There have been a lot of unlikely entertainment options that have emerged over the past several months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most interesting is the fact that more movies are being forced to release directly to streaming services, rather than going through the traditional release process.

One such film is the Polish thriller 365 Days, or, as it is known in Poland, 365 DNI. Record numbers of viewers have been streaming the film and taking to social media to discuss the movie, the controversial ending, and whether there will be a sequel of the Netflix film in the near future.

What is ‘365 Days’ about?

365 Days first premiered in Poland earlier this spring but received its Netflix release in June. The film follows the story of Laura, a young woman from Warsaw, played by the actress Anna-Maria Sieklucka.

Laura encounters an intriguing yet domineering Sicilian man named Massimo. Massimo becomes captivated with Laura and eventually kidnaps her, claiming that he has been unable to get her out of his thoughts. He gives Laura 365 days to fall in love with him.

Laura and Massimo enter an unconventional relationship, where they must wrestle with their growing feelings for each other and the very real dangers that they find themselves in on a daily basis. The film features a number of daring erotic scenes, and on several occasions, pushes the envelope on what might normally be acceptable for Netflix to present. Still, fans love the film and have taken to social media in droves to rave about the boundary-pushing thriller.

‘365 Days’ ends on a cliffhanger

By the third act of the film, Massimo and Laura have called head over heels in love with each other. Massimo proposes to Laura, and she accepts, although they acknowledge that their relationship will be a trying one, considering Massimo’s involvement with the mob. The couple also finds out that they are expecting a baby. In the final minutes of the film, Laura goes shopping for a wedding dress for her upcoming nuptials, when she is presented with tragedy.

Massimo receives a call that alerts him to the fact that Laura could be in danger, and hastily rushes to where he believes she might be. Unfortunately, when he reaches the tunnel where Laura would have been driving through, her car is nowhere to be seen and a police siren can be heard in the distance. Massimo is devastated, and viewers are left without knowing Laura’s ultimate fate, or whether she is still alive at all.

365 Days has earned a number of comparisons to the Fifty Shades of Grey series, both the books and the movies. In addition to the obvious plot parallels, 365 Days is also based on a popular book trilogy.

It is this fact that has caused fans to wonder whether a sequel, or possibly two, could be in the works. Recently, it was reported that plans are already in place to begin filming at least one sequel. Although details are sparse, it seems as though the two stars of the film are on board to return.

Still, filming won’t begin anytime soon. As confirmed by the film’s stars, the filming for the upcoming sequel has been placed on indefinite hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and potentially won’t even start until next year. In spite of the delay, it is likely that the film will enjoy the same overwhelming popularity as the original film.
