‘Om Shanti Om’

If you’re in for a colorful and musical film filled with Bollywood dances, Om Shanti Om is the perfect watch. Starring India’s top stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, the movie tells an epic love story that spans generations and features elements of both classic and modern Bollywood cinema. The movie is light, entertaining, and family-friendly. 

‘Baahubali’

The 2015 Tamil/Telegu fantasy epic, Baahubali, tells the story of an adventurous man who helps his lover rescue his land’s former queen from the grasps of a tyrannical new ruler. The film, and its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which is also on Netflix, are two of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. 

‘Dangal’ 

The award-winning 2016 film, Dangal, tells the true story of two young Indian girls who defeat all odds to become the country’s most celebrated competitive wrestlers. The movie is loosely based on real-life wrestling champions Mahavir Singh Phogat, and his daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari. After pulling in over $311 million, Dangal is ranked as the highest-grossing Indian film of all time.

‘Dil Se’

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Manisha Koirala, Dil Se is one of the most visually and musically beautiful Bollywood films ever made. It tells the dark love story of a radio reporter who meets a mysterious woman on his travels to India’s stunning and remote northern region.

The film’s soundtrack comes from Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman, with song lyrics written by renowned poet Gulzaar. And it’s cinematographer, Santosh Sivan, is one of India’s best.  

‘Chennai Express’

A fun family comedy, Chennai Express follows a man’s adventurous trip to South India, when he gets kidnapped because of an interesting young woman he meets on a train while heading out to spread his beloved grandfather’s ashes. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and features colorful music, a funny storyline, and beautiful choreography.

‘Lagaan’ 

The Academy Award-nominated film, Lagaan, is set in the late 1800s during India’s colonial British Raj. It tells the story of a small village who is ravaged by drought and must find a way to pay their taxes. When a British officer challenges them to a game of cricket with the promise of waiving their taxes if they win, the villagers must come together to play the game of their life. 

The movie’s soundtrack was produced by A.R. Rahman, and it stars Amir Khan, Paul Blackthorne, and Gracy Singh. 

‘Jodhaa Akbar’
