The 9-1-1 “Boston” cast brought Jennifer Love Hewitt back to the forefront. Maddie Buckley’s mental health teetered on the edge in the past, causing her to leave her baby, Jee-Yun, behind. She also skipped town without telling her romantic partner, Chimney, where she was headed. Finally, in “Boston,” fans see exactly where Maddie’s been.

In 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 12, Chimney and Maddie reunite during a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Boston, Massachusetts. Maddie’s new friend, Kira, needs medical assistance, bringing Chimney and Maddie back together to assist her.

The 9-1-1 “Boston” cast featured fan-favorites like Hewitt, Kenneth Choi as Chimney, Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson, Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, and Peter Krause as Bobby Nash. Kira, Maddie’s new friend, is played by A.J. Cook.

Maddie and Kira are both part of the 9-1-1 “Boston” cast, but it’s not Jennifer Love Hewitt’s first time working with A.J. Cook. Cook and Hewitt worked together on Criminal Minds in the past. Hewitt spoke about working with Cook again to TV Insider.

“It was really fun because when I was on Criminal Minds, it was a show she had been on obviously for a long time and it was sort of her place and I was coming in and kind of just getting to play and have some fun,” Hewitt expressed. “This was sort of the opposite. It was like she was coming into 9-1-1 where I’ve been for a while, and she was getting to come in and have some fun.”

Hewitt then talked about the importance of Maddie and Kira as characters. “Kira’s such an interesting character, and we both really had to hold each other up a lot in the episode in our different storylines and representations of women and moms and mental health issues,” she added. “It was nice to be able to do that with somebody that I had a comfort level with.” Hewitt then noted Criminal Minds and 9-1-1 fans are bound to be excited to see how “the worlds collided.”

While Jennifer Love Hewitt returned to the 9-1-1 “Boston” cast, why was she written out of the show in the first place?

Hewitt was pregnant during season 5, and she left to have her baby. Now, five months later, she returned to the show — and hopefully, she’s here to stay.

“The way Maddie left was very extreme — and the way that I was feeling when I left was very extreme because I was very pregnant. I think the audience has a lot of questions,” Hewitt told Entertainment Weekly. “And I feel good about the fact that all of them will be answered on Monday.”

Hewitt then noted it’s “definitely weird coming back to work with a five-month-old — especially the work that I do on the show, which is some of the heavier stuff — but it was really exciting. I was excited to come back and tell Maddie’s story and answer a lot of questions for people.”

Fans hope to see more of A.J. Cook as Kira in 9-1-1 Season 5 in the future.
