“There’s a thing called SWAT-ing, where somebody calls 9-1-1, and they send the police or usually a SWAT team to a house,” Minear said. “ … So I always thought that would be a fun way to do a crossover because usually, it’s cross-state. So we have a story on Lone Star where there is a SWAT-ing incident and somebody is killed, and Carlos (Rafael Silva) and Grace (Sierra McClain) feel personally affronted because they were used as weapons. They are trying to figure out where the SWAT-ing call came from, and they trace it to Los Angeles.”
The president of Fox Entertainment talks pairing the 2 shows in the franchise back to back on Mondays
Both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star pull in record-breaking viewership for Fox. Michael Thorn, president of entertainment at Fox Entertainment, spoke to Variety about putting the two shows back to back on Monday nights.
“Obviously, they work so well together as part of the same franchise,” Thorn explained. “They are our two biggest scripted shows, period. So, the idea of at least for part of every season, having them together on the same night is one of our goals.”
Thorn then noted when Fox can bring the two shows together for a “powerhouse night,” they will “lean” into that. “It makes a signature night for us on Fox,” he added.
