Fox’s 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 11 welcomes back the 9-1-1 cast. Earlier in the season, fans continued to watch Eddie Diaz (played by Ryan Guzman) and Evan “Buck” Buckley (played by Oliver Stark) develop their long-lasting friendship. But Buck might experience more significant loss if Eddie leaves. So, is Eddie Diaz leaving 9-1-1? Here’s what we know.

Eddie Diaz is a firefighter for Station 118, and he’s been through a lot over the seasons. Not only has he put himself in harm’s way to save others, but he has his son, Christopher Diaz, to worry about. Christopher has cerebral palsy, and because Eddie is Christopher’s only parent, he feels a lot of pressure to be the best father possible. Past seasons showed Eddie dealing with his parenthood stress in unhealthy ways, like underground cage fighting.

In 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 10, Eddie shocked fans by announcing he was leaving Station 118. Ultimately, he felt his position at 118 put him in precarious positions, and he didn’t want to leave Christopher fatherless. Now, going into 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 11, fans remain uncertain about Eddie’s future with the show after his serious announcement.

Is Eddie Diaz leaving ‘9-1-1’? Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley actor Oliver Stark said no

So, is Eddia Diaz leaving 9-1-1 for good? Fans can rejoice, as Eddie will remain on the show — though perhaps not with Station 118. According to the official plot synopsis posted by Fox, Eddie takes on a new job in the spring premiere — but it doesn’t go well. “Eddie has a rough transition into his new job,” the synopsis teases. This could very well bring him back to Station 118.

Buck actor Oliver Stark also spoke about his on-screen best friend, Eddie Diaz. Eddie put Buck’s name down as Christopher’s guardian in the event of his death, so we can’t imagine what would happen if Eddie left Buck’s life completely. Thankfully, Stark noted fans don’t have to worry, as actor Ryan Guzman isn’t going anywhere.

Hello! notes Stark took to his Instagram Stories to answer questions about 9-1-1 Season 5. When a fan asked, “Is Ryan still on 9-1-1?” Stark answered, “Yes. And, I have to say, I think he does some really amazing work in the back half of this season, so look out for that.” Additionally, Stark noted he believes the second half of season 5 is “top tier,” and he expects fans will love episode 14.

While fans will still get to see Eddie Diaz in the rest of the season, 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 11 appears to feature a serious breakdown from the character. TVGuide notes a new teaser for the spring season premiere shows Eddie crying hysterically while holding a baseball bat, and it seems his breakdown happens in front of Buck. It’s unclear exactly what prompts this, but co-showrunner Kristen Reidel teased that “Eddie is very tightly wound” in the latter half of season 5.

With that said, Buck will be by Eddie’s side to get him help. “Eddie finally reaches the point where he has to not only admit he needs help, but he has to be willing to accept it and to embrace it,” Reidel added, also noting that his “chosen family” gets involved in improving his mental health.

9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 11 airs Monday, March 21, 2022, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
