A Discovery of Witches Season 3 is almost here. The AMC+ series about the forbidden relationship between a witch named Diana (Teresa Palmer) and a vampire named Matthew (Matthew Goode) returns in 2022. So what’s in store for Diana, Matthew, and the rest of the witches, vampires, and daemons we’ve met over the past two seasons? Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming episodes of A Discovery of Witches.

What happened at the end of ‘A Discovery of Witches’ Season 2?

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 debuted in January 2021 on AMC+. It ended on a cliffhanger with Diana — who is now pregnant — and her vampire husband Matthew traveling back to the present day from 16th-century London. During their time-traveling jaunt, they located the mysterious Book of Life, which contains information about the origins of vampires, witches, and daemons. However, they weren’t able to uncover all its secrets. Diana also learned she was a weaver — meaning she can create her own spells — perfected her skills as a witch.

But all was not well when they returned to the present. Peter Knox (Owen Teale) murdered Diana’s beloved aunt Emily (Valarie Pettiford) when she wouldn’t hand over the missing page from the Book of Life. It was all setting up a big showdown between Matthew, Diana, and their allies and Knox and the others who are opposed to different types of creatures mixing together.

‘A Discovery of Witches’ Season 3 premieres in January 2022

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 finale left many fans wanting more. They’ll get it in January 2022, when the show’s third season premieres of AMC+, Shudder, and Sundance Now.

The next batch of episodes are explosive, executive producer Lachlan McKinnon told Radio Times during a virtual panel of MCM London Comic-Con in October 2021.

“[E]verything’s to play for,” he said. “We’ve got Diana, who is trying to right the wrongs of the Congregation and working with Matthew, who’s also in his journey as well, you know, trying to become the father he always wanted to be. And everyone’s got their part to play in that journey. So it’s gargantuan.”

Is season 3 the show’s last?

Season 3 will be the last for A Discovery of Witches. That will come as no surprise to fans of the books on which it’s based.

There are three novels in Deborah Harkness’ All Souls trilogy. The first two books, A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night, were the basis for the first two seasons. Season 3 will draw from the third installment in the series, The Book of Life.
