Reality TV viewers have been watching Abby Lee Miller since Dance Moms first began in 2011. She quickly rose to fame for the series which chronicled the young dancers attending her studio, the Abby Lee Dance Company. And since the beginning, we’ve even watched a few of the tiniest dancers become absolute sensations thanks to her tutelage. It seems many of her students have her to thank for their exposure, fame, and success.

Miller isn’t without her faults, however, and we can’t forget watching her for years as she underwent jail time for fraud and then treatments for cancer. She’s still managing to get through it all with a little bit of money in the bank, however. Here’s information regarding her money and net worth that she’s managed to amass despite her shortcomings.

Miller went to jail for 366 days for bankruptcy fraud

If you don’t know Miller for her time with Dance Moms, you may know her for her highly-publicized jail sentence. People reports Miller was sentenced to 366 days in jail back in October 2015. As for the charge, she allegedly attempted to hide $775,000 of her income that she acquired from Dance Moms and her other business ventures during proceedings for bankruptcy. She allegedly pulled this off by hiding it in multiple bank accounts while also having her friends carry $120,000 in their luggage. In addition to the jail sentence of a year and a day that she received for this level of fraud, she also was fined $40,000 and ordered to pay an additional $120,000.

Miller began her jail sentence in July 2017 and has since completed all time she needed to serve. She seemingly spent her sentence wisely and has since learned how to appropriately manage her money, but even so — we can’t imagine she had too much left after that.

Her net worth today

Even with the scandal and the jail time, Miller seems to be doing OK for herself today. The Richest notes her net worth stands around $2 million, and Us Weekly reports during her time on Dance Moms, Lifetime was giving her a paycheck of nearly $9,000 per month. While her net worth would certainly be way more without the jail time, she’s still managed to do well for herself.

Her finances also likely took a hit with her cancer diagnosis. Back in April 2018, Miller was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma after emergency surgery on her spine, Women’s Health reports. After multiple rounds of chemotherapy and relearning to walk, she seems to be on the mend. And, to help her depleted funds from the cancer, People reports JoJo Siwa, a former Dance Moms student, surprised Miller with a check for $10,000 from Dancers Against Cancer.

What she’s up to in 2019

After several tough years, Miller hasn’t given up yet — and it turns out she’s even returning to Dance Moms for Season 8. She left during Season 7 due to her legal issues and problems with the production team. Now, it looks like she’s putting it all behind her and proceeding with the show, and fans can’t wait to see her back with the program.

Newsweek reports currently, Miller is looking for young talent to cast for the new season. Dancemomcasting.com stated, “The most infamous dance instructor in the world is going back to her roots and only interested in parents who are ready to take their kids to the next level. Abby Lee Miller is currently holding auditions for her new ALDC elite competition team.”
