Fans of Abbott Elementary are in luck. On March 14, ABC announced the TV show was renewed for a second season. Since it premiered in December 2021, Abbott Elementary has been a hit with fans and critics, making it no surprise that it earned an early renewal from ABC.

‘Abbott Elementary’ will return for season 2 on ABC

ABC announced the renewal of Abbott Elementary on the show’s official social media channels. The memo about the show’s second season is written by school principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James), a character on the show.

The announcement reads:

“Faculty and Students (aka My Fans) –

The camera crew I hired to showcase all that I’ve made happen at our beautiful school thinks I’m a star. I mean, are we surprised? No, we’re not :) With that said, it is with great pleasure that I share they’ll be returning for the 2022-2023 school year! That’s right – Abbott Elementary Season Two is coming to a screen near you.”

What is ‘Abbott Elementary’ about?

Abbott Elementary was created by Quinta Brunson, and Brunson also stars as a second grade teacher named Janine Teagues.

Tyler James Williams plays a substitute teacher named Gregory Eddie, James stars as Principal Coleman, Sheryl Lee Ralph plays a kindergarten teacher named Barbara Howard, Chris Perfetti appears as a history teacher named Jacob Hill, and Lisa Ann Walter plays another second grade teacher named Melissa Schemmenti.

The show follows the teachers and administration at Abbott Elementary, a public school in Philadelphia. Together, the teachers work to help their students the best they can despite the school being underfunded.

‘Abbott Elementary’ encouraged fans to donate school supplies with its season 2 announcement

Abbott Elementary revolves around the lives of those working at a fictional school, but ABC used the renewal of the TV show to try and help schools and teachers in real life.

In the announcement about season 2, Principal Coleman encouraged fans of the show to donate school supplies, writing:

“… my staff is having trouble seeing all of my unleashed potential! Something about needing supplies? Anywho, I could use your help getting them (Janine) off my back. If you’re interested in supporting them and our community of young mind shapers, please visit DonorsChoose.org.”

New episodes of Abbott Elementary premiere on ABC at 9 p.m. ET. The next episode will air on ABC on March 22.
