Alaskan Bush People fans are mourning the death of series star Billy Brown. Brown died Sunday, Feb. 7, after experiencing a seizure, his son Bear Brown announced on Monday. He was 68.

“We are devastated to hear of Billy Brown’s sudden passing,” read a tweet from the show’s official Twitter account. “He has been part of the @Discovery family for years — a trailblazer, a lovely man, and most definitely one of a kind. Our heart is with his family and those that knew him as they deal with this devastating loss.”

Brown’s children remembered their father on social media. Daughter Rain Brown said she had ‘lost a true friend.” 

“Please hold my family in your thoughts and prayers, especially my mother,” she wrote on Instagram. “Please hold your family tight for me. Words cannot express how wonderful he was and is. But I will say, the closest thing to an angel I’ve ever known. God bless you da I love and miss you dearly. You will always be my hero.”

Rain’s brother Bear also expressed his feeling at having lost his “best friend.” In a post on his private Instagram, he called his father  “a wonderful and loving dad, granddad and husband … he will be dearly missed” (via Deadline.)  

“He lived his life on his terms, off the grid and off the land and taught us to live like that as well,” Bear added. “We plan to honor his legacy going forward, and to continue with his dream. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time! God bless everyone!”

‘Alaskan Bush People’ Might Be Even Faker Than the Kardashians

As news of Billy Brown’s death spread, tributes poured in on social media from viewers of his family’s reality show. Many fans shared their condolences with the Brown family. Several spoke of how much they enjoyed watching Billy and his family share their unique way of life on their reality series. 

“My dad died on January 18th. We loved to watch your show together … I am so sorry for your family’s loss,” one person commented on Rain’s Instagram post. 

“After following the family through all their adventures I feel like I lost a family member. My condolences go out to the Brown family in this trying time,” a fan wrote on a post on the show’s official Instagram account.

Alaskan Bush People has aired on Discovery Channel since 2014. The show chronicles the off-the-grid life of the Brown family, including Billy, his wife Ami, and their seven children. Ami was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017, which led the family to leave Alaska for rural Washington, where it would be easier for her to access medical treatment. In 2018, Ami announced she was cancer-free.

Alaskan Bush People Season 12 wrapped up in fall of 2020. Discovery Channel has not made any announcements about the status of the show or whether it will return for season 13.
