What was the movie ‘Enchanted’ starring Amy Adams about?

Enchanted was a completely new take on a Disney movie. The film begins in animated Andalasia, where Prince Edward (James Marsden) falls in love with the sound of Giselle’s (Amy Adams) voice. They agree to marry when they meet, but his evil mother Queen Narcissa (Susan Sarandon) intervenes and sets Giselle off and away.

When Giselle is pushed out of Andalasia, she enters live-action life in New York City. Giselle has to adjust to the new way of living and encounters divorce lawyer Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey). She asks for his help and falls in love with him while trying to find her way back home.

Prince Edward also travels to the alternate dimension, but his journey is solely to find Giselle and bring her back to Andalasia. In the end, Giselle finds her “happily ever after” with Robert, as opposed to the prince.

What the cast has said about an ‘Enchanted’ sequel

Dempsey has spoken about the Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted, before. In 2018, the Grey’s Anatomy star revealed to Entertainment Tonight that Disney “is in the process of working on the book, the lyrics, and the musical aspects.”

“We’ll see what happens,” Dempsey said. “I think it’s such a beloved movie we need to make sure it’s right before we move forward. And certainly, Amy was remarkable in that film and she’s an incredible actress and James Marsden as well. We’ll see, I hope it can live it up what we did originally, that’s the important thing. If it happens, then we do it.”

At the time, Dempsey gave his input on a possible storyline for his character in the sequel.

“He [is] probably 10 years older and [Giselle and Robert] are still together,” Dempsey said. “They have a child together and I think they are battling what it means to be getting old and I think she wants to go back to Andalasia so she doesn’t have to age.”

Where will the ‘Enchanted’ sequel be available to watch?

Disney announced on Dec. 10, 2020 that the Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted, will be available to watch on streaming platform Disney+. The movie, which is listed as in pre-production on IMDb, is set to star Adams, Dempsey, and Marsden yet again.

The film’s premise is: “Ten years after her happily ever after, Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.”

It sounds like Dempsey was pretty close to getting the new premise correct. We’ll be keeping our eyes out for any updates on production for the Enchanted sequel.
