And Just Like That… will return for a second season. Fans of the series assumed a follow-up season was forthcoming from the moment the screen went dark on the final episode. Still, HBO Max left fans dangling for more than a month. With a second season officially announced, viewers are getting down to more serious business. Several fans note that the finale presents a serious problem for the show’s writers. Namely, they want to know what they’ll be doing about Samantha Jones

Season 1 of ‘And Just Like That…’ ended with Carrie Bradshaw meeting up with Samantha Jones

When And Just Like That… was announced, fans began talking about Samantha Jones. Discussion about the missing character reached a fever pitch as the premiere date drew closer. Showrunner Michael Patrick King assured fans that Samantha would be addressed. He was not lying. Season 1 managed to satisfy the need for Samantha without having the character seen.

Her absence was explained by a big move after a bigger falling out. According to the series, Samantha moved to London after Carrie fired her as her publicist. Samantha and Carrie conversed throughout the show via text messages. Their text exchange in the season finale led to an off-screen meet-up, and, presumably a reconciliation. It wasn’t mentioned much after that.

Writers will need to address Samantha Jones again

The season finale made it clear that Samantha and Carrie were headed for a reconciliation. With that text message now etched into Sex and the City canon, the show’s writers will have a big problem to contend with. Now that Carrie and Samantha met up, fans will expect to see the character.

And Just Like That… fans can’t help but wonder how the show will handle the character without having Kim Cattrall show up. While no one on the production team is talking about how season 2 will tackle the issue, one thing is sure. Cattrall isn’t coming back.

Sarah Jessica Parker, the actor who portrays Carrie Bradshaw, has made her feelings about Cattrall known. Parker doesn’t want Cattrall to return for the reboot. According to Glamour, Parker feels like the longstanding feud between the costars would overshadow the series. Michael Patrick King has clarified that while Samantha will always be a part of the story, Cattrall is not. Cattrall didn’t seem interested in returning, anyway.

Does season 2 of ‘And Just Like That…’ have a premiere date?

Season 1 of And Just Like That… ended on February 3. The renewal news came in nearly two months later. Fans, understandably, want to know when they can expect a second season. HBO Max is staying hush about that for now.

The season is not yet in production. If the show follows tradition, filming won’t begin until the late spring. If that’s the case, fans likely won’t catch up with Carrie and her pals until, at least, the fall. Season 1 premiered in December 2021. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume season 2 may premiere around the same time.
