There are enough superheroes in the Marvel universe to keep fans entertained for decades to come. It also means there’s no end to the possibilities when it comes to prequels, sequels, and television spinoffs. Disney is banking on that, and they’ve recently shown just how they can use the Marvel universe as a basis for something completely different with shows like WandaVision and Loki. One character fans feel could use another chapter is Ant-Man.

According to a recent thread on reddit, fans would love an Ant-Man prequel, even though one is unlikely to happen any time soon.

With Black Widow finally hitting theaters after a long wait due to COVID-related delays, fans are starting to wonder what the next Marvel prequel will be. Many have high hopes that Ant-Man will get it’s long-awaited due. After all, Ant-Man has the perfect setup for a prequel. Paul Rudd plays Ant-Man, also known as Scott Lang. But Lang wasn’t the first Ant-Man.

That title goes to the discoverer of the Pym particle, Hank Pym himself. He fought alongside the original Avengers as Ant-Man in the comic books, and eventually lost his wife, The Wasp, to the Microverse. Fans think the story of Ant-Man and The Wasp pre-Lang could be an exciting watch. Fans caught a glimpse of how The Wasp ended up in the Microverse, but they crave more. Especially since Hank Pym had a big role in the original Marvel comics.

A prequel would give Hank Pym a chance to shine

Diehard Marvel fans want to see Hank Pym get his due. He was instrumental in the comics, and his backstory could bring a lot more of the old Avengers on screen. One fan wrote, “Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne are not just any characters. They are founding members of The Avengers whose membership outdates not only Black Widow but Captain America as well. They are two of the most complex characters Marvel has to offer with years of rich history and deep development.”

Fans think that Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne don’t really get the credit they deserve in the current collection of Marvel films. After all, they aren’t warriors as much as scientists working behind the scenes. Pym and Van Dyne have proven their worth as hardcore superheroes in the comics, and they deserve better. After all, new Marvel fans may skip the comics completely and only indulge in Marvel movies and television shows. In order to carry on their legacy, they’ll need to get credit for their hard work on screen.

Will Disney produce more ‘Ant-Man’ content?

Disney has already announced the next installment in the Ant-Man series, but it isn’t a prequel. The Ant-Man saga will be moving forward in time, with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which is sent to premiere sometime in 2023. We do know this will be a continuation of the Ant-Man saga, not a look back like fans want. But some are hopeful that the new Ant-Man will have more backstory for Pym and Van Dyne.

Many fans commented that they think a young Pym and Van Dyne will appear in some form in Quantumania. Some even think that the old Ant-Man and The Wasp will appear by time travel to help out the second generation of the superhero duo. One redditor has strong evidence that there will be some form of time travel in the film, writing “I feel like we could see young Hank and Janet help out in the climax to Quantumania through time travel (Kang’s in it, so time travel’s pretty much confirmed to be involved in the film).”
