Zack Snyder trended on social media again after the trailer for Army of the Dead dropped on April 13. The Netflix flick marks Snyder’s return to the zombie genre following his debut in 2004 with Dawn of the Dead.

While the cast includes wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista, Theo Rossi, and Power star Omari Hardwick, there’s someone else in the film who could steal the show when the film arrives. The zombie tiger that crossed the line is turning into a star itself, and it has a warm and fuzzy name.

‘Army of the Dead’ has intelligent and quick zombies

Unlike most movies about the undead, Army of the Dead turns its zombies into strategic, fast-moving creatures. Fans have seen this type before in World War Z and I Am Legend.

Filmed in 2019 at an abandoned casino in Atlantic City and parts of New Mexico, the flick is about a billionaire who hires mercenaries to wade through a zombie-plagued city to grab millions in cash.

Set to the tune of Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler,” the trailer lays out the group’s mission and switches to high-octane action scenes with zombies who have superhuman strength, dagger-dodging agility, and smarts.

Their army is quite the match for a safe-breaking expert, a mechanic, ex-soldiers, human refugees, and a public health volunteer.

The trailer has already racked up more than 7 million views online, and Zack Snyder fans are hyped to see his next foray into the action-horror arena. The director recently chatted with Beyond The Trailer host Grace Randolph and said it was the best time he’s had working on a movie.

That ‘Army of the Dead’ zombie tiger has a sweet name: Valentine

In the last few seconds of the trailer, there’s a quiet pause shortly before viewers see a beast’s feet forcefully land on a car. What is that? The zombie plague did not spare this white tiger whose body is part decayed, part majestic.

“It’s a goddamn zombie tiger” that roars and obviously kills. Snyder told Randolph he knew everyone would dig the tiger and revealed its name is Valentine. And Snyder said the tiger was definitely his idea, adding that they knew early on they wanted zombie animals.

“I think it was one of those early ideas where I was like, ‘Ok’,” said Snyder. “I thought for sure, it just made sense that if you’re gonna go to Vegas, you’re gonna have that.”

Snyder explained the main zombies have ‘animal kingdom’ behavior

When breaking down what to expect in the film, Snyder shared that there’s a hierarchy with this zombie population where alphas exist. The biggest of the baddies is the leader Zeus, and he has a queen. There’s even a general.

Snyder explained that they have an archaic way of communicating that “is very much from the animal kingdom.” He also compared their behavior to wolves and noted there’s a pack-like component to how these zombies operate.

From the sound of it, there will more than one animal showing up in Army of the Dead. Get ready to stream it on Netflix on April 13.
