Normally, the cast of Bachelor in Paradise and the rest of the Bachelor franchise shows make headlines for their love lives. But unfortunately, in this case, one popular BIP contestant is being talked about for a different reason. Instead of relationship updates, this star’s family member is in the news for being charged with murder.

‘Bachelor in Paradise’ star Ivan Hall’s brother charged with murder

Ivan Hall, who competed on Tayshia Adams’ season of The Bachelorette and appeared on Bachelor in Paradise, is having some family trouble. His brother, Gabriel Balagtas Hall, has been charged with murder, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gabriel “was booked on Oct. 15 for a first-degree felony murder charge” after being arrested in connection to a shooting that took place on Aug. 31. Gabriel has since been charged in the shooting death of Carlos Veliz Jr., who was “found with a gunshot wound in a convenience store parking lot,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Ivan’s brother on ‘The Bachelorette’

Ivan made it to the final three of Tayshia’s season, which meant that his brother appeared during hometowns. During his time with Tayshia, Gabriel expressed how much Ivan helped care for his daughter and described their close relationship.

“Loyalty — that’s an action word, and I think that if you give him the chance, he will demonstrate that,” Gabriel told Tayshia of Ivan. “I mean he’s demonstrated that to me my whole life. My brother — I couldn’t see my life without him, and from my personal gauge, it seems like you guys together — I like it.”

Ivan’s time on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’

Ivan quickly became a fan favorite on The Bachelorette. When Tayshia sent him home, fans were still rooting for him to find love. So he went on Bachelor in Paradise. He was sent home when he broke the rules by going to contestant Alexa Caves‘ hotel room off-camera.

“Last night at the hotel, I was really in a place where I was kind of feeling lost here in Paradise,” Ivan explained on the show. “I was honestly feeling lost and had no connections. I didn’t know where to go, really. And last night, I spent time with Alexa at the hotel.”

He continued: “There was a phone in my room, a producer’s phone, it was just there. It was literally the first thing on the screen. I didn’t go searching for anything; it was a screenshot of the room numbers and stuff.”

Guest host Wells Adams later clarified what happened that caused Ivan to get sent home.

“So I think what happened is that a producer had everyone’s room number on their phone,” Wells said on the Your Favorite Things podcast. “Because you have your mask, and your phone doesn’t read, like, it’s your face, she had turned off her face notification, so she could get to, like, all the information. And so she left the phone in the room. I think he went over and was like, ‘Oh, here’s a phone,’ realized, opened it up, and the first thing was everyone’s room number. And then he bailed.”
