In the Sept. 13 episode of the Talking It Out podcast with Bachelor Nation fan-favorites Mike Johnson and Bryan Abasolo, Kendall opened up about her relationship with Joe on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7. Kendall revealed her BIP experience was “really difficult,” but she didn’t join the cast thinking she was getting back together with Joe.

“Initially, I knew that Joe was probably going to be on the show because he was single, and he is actively part of The Bachelor world,” Kendall said. “When I went on, I wasn’t interested in getting back in a relationship with Joe because if I wanted to, I would’ve done that the year and a half that we were broken up.”

She continued, “I didn’t want to do it publicly in front of everybody. So my goal was to get closure and then to find love on the beach like I did before.”

Kendall ultimately wanted closure with Joe and to move on to another relationship in Bachelor in Paradise. But it wasn’t that simple. Still speaking on the Talking It Out podcast, Kendall shared how her first talk with Joe really made her feel. She said:

“That first talk shocked me and made the rest of Paradise really difficult. When I walked down, I wasn’t expecting to have feelings come up again. I was expecting it to be more cut and dry, like … we want to move on. I wanted that for him, and I literally actively avoided him pretty much the entire time that I was there because I didn’t want to get in the way of him developing something with someone else. I wasn’t interested in that because I knew that we had really tried. And Serena’s great. She was so sweet, so kind, and so respectful as well. It was an awkward situation.”

Meanwhile, Kendall revealed that she connected with Ivan Hall, noting they had similar interests in science and engineering. But having an ex on the beach made it difficult to connect with others.

“The one thing that Joe had was he was able to start a relationship with Serena before I came on,” Kendall said. “There’s so many memories here. There’s so much that happened here. … We didn’t break up because I hate him. He’s a good person. So I was really battling those emotions, and I just didn’t have the luxury of being able to develop something away from him.”

For now, it seems Kendall might leave Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 single. In the Talking It Out podcast, the 30-year-old revealed that she started spiraling before she went on any dates.

“There were opportunities to go on dates, and by then, I had kind of spiraled in my mind to a point where I just kept comparing everything to our relationship that we had,” Kendall said. “I think I was in my head a lot, and I don’t think I gave things a chance that I should have, just because I was spiraling in my own way.”

Nevertheless, it seems Kendall got the closure she needed from Joe on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7.

“I feel like I definitely got a lot of answers, 100%. I feel like people change over time,” Kendall said. “Who Joe and I were when we were in a relationship, we’re not those same people anymore. I’ve grown. He’s grown. And I think with who we are right now, I think I have closure with where I am right now.”

Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 airs Tuesdays on ABC.
