Both Serena and Joe were first-day arrivals on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7, and the reality stars hit it off right away. At first, Joe wasn’t sure whether he should stay on the beach. But a few conversations with Serena changed Joe’s mind.

As BIP progressed, fans watched Joe and Serena start to fall in love. Then things got a little complicated when Kendall Long returned to the beach. However, Serena and Joe only grew stronger together.

Eventually, the couple exchanged “I love yous,” and they made it to Fantasy Suites in one piece. Then in the Bachelor in Paradise finale, Joe proposed to Serena, and she immediately accepted.

How Serena Pitt really felt when she met Joe Amabile on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’

When speaking on the Talking It Out podcast, Serena opened up about meeting Joe on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7. The 23-year-old shared that she knew who “Grocery Store Joe” was in the franchise. However, they never met, and she was interested in talking to him because she thought he was a “good looking guy.” But funnily enough, Serena admitted that she thought Joe was “kind of a mess” during their first conversation on the beach.

“In that first conversation, he was kind of a mess,” Serena said and laughed.

However, Serena noted that her now-fiancé was “endearing” because he was just being himself. She said:

“I really thought it was endearing because I was, like, despite this environment where you almost feel the pressure to have this perfect persona of doing the right thing, saying the right thing, and looking great, he’s just sitting there and he’s just acknowledging his awkwardness. He’s sweating, and he’s being open with me that he’s having a tough time and going through real difficult things emotionally. … I just really felt in that first conversation, I truly got butterflies with him. And I did find it super endearing that he was just so genuine and totally himself right out of the gate.”

While it seems Serena didn’t exactly experience love at first sight with Joe in Bachelor in Paradise Season 7, that initial spark from their first conversation eventually grew into love. Then in an interview with E! News, Serena revealed the moment she knew she wanted to marry Joe.

“I was like, ‘We’re going to leave here together. We’re going to fall in love with each other and this is going to be it,” she said. “The morning of fantasy suites, thinking like—this is so cheesy but like, ‘Yeah, I’m going to marry him, he is the one.'”

That said, Bachelor Nation fans will have to wait a while for a wedding. Before Joe and Serena get married, they have to sort out their living arrangements.

“We plan on moving in together in the spring.,” Joe said. “That will either be Chicago, Toronto, or potentially New York. But we will be on the East Coast.”
