The latest episode of The Bachelorette led to some controversy. That’s because Clare Crawley claimed she didn’t go to her high school prom, then a fan accused her of lying. She has responded and Bachelor Nation is now coming forward to defend her.

The Oct. 20 episode showed Crawley talking to Chasen Nick about her past. She told him she “didn’t have the greatest high school experience.”

The reality star said no one asked her to prom so she didn’t go. But one fan posted a picture of her husband with Crawley at what looks like a school dance on Instagram. She wrote “My husband took @clarecrawley to senior prom, @clarecrawley you went to prom.”

Crawley responded to this in the comments. She wrote, “lol actually not. You do know there is more dances in high school that are NOT Prom? Turns out it’s just someone digging up old photos. (why she keeps her husbands old dance pics I’m not sure) I went to a new school senior year and in fact DID NOT go to prom just like i [sic] said.”

Bachelor Nation is now defending her

Alums from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are defending Crawley on social media. They think she is unfairly being mistreated by fans.

“The fact that women are tagging Clare and calling her a liar makes me feel deeply uncomfortable. The fandom in this franchise has gotten to a really bad place,” Ashley Spivey from The Bachelor Season 15 tweeted.

Nicole Lopez-Alvar from The Bachelor Season 23 responded to her tweet. “Women on TV, whether it be an accomplished attorney running for VP, or a dating show contestant, will always be subjected to unfair judgement (even from women) due to the patriarchal society we continue to live in. I just started a podcast and I feel sick talking about Clare. Ugh,” she tweeted.

The Bachelorette former star, Rachel Lindsay backed up Spivey’s tweet. “Couldn’t agree with you more,” she added. Nick Viall from The Bachelor Season 21 made a thread about the controversy.

Nick Viall had his own theories about ‘PromGate’

“PromGate…A thread. 1) If you want to playfully snark about this pic of Clare at a high school dance…Cool, It’s a silly fun show that is silly and fun to discuss. 2) If you’re looking at this photo and making blanket assumptions about Clare’s character ….,” read Viall’s first tweet.

“Then you need to chill. 3) This could be a pic from any dance that’s not prom 4) maybe Clare had to ask this guy, because he was too scared to ask her 5) and maybe Clare technically lied and which case.. who cares 6) everyone reading this has lied about stupid sh*t,” he added.

“And we have no idea why we do it. Stop Dming Clare, stop harassing her in her comments, chill out. Enjoy the show. This is meant to be fun. 2020 you’re exhausting. Clare.. thank you for the silly fun entertainment,” he added.

Crawley hasn’t commented any further about the accusation. It looks like most of the alums hope fans will leave her alone.
