In the latest episode of the Click Bait with Bachelor Nation podcast, Brandon recounted the “wild story” of becoming a contestant on The Bachelorette Season 18. During the conversation, Brandon admitted that he wasn’t a massive fan of the show. However, Brandon started watching the ABC series with his roommate when Matt James was the Bachelor. When his roommate asked him to choose his favorite contestant, Brandon confessed that he liked Michelle. He revealed that he got “sucked into the show because Michelle kept going.”

So, when Michelle was announced to be the next Bachelorette, his roommate encouraged him to sign up because he knew Brandon had a big crush on her. Brandon didn’t want to apply, but the roommate had other plans. Ultimately, the roommate filled out an application for Brandon and sent it off. When the podcast host asked why his roommate did that for him, Brandon simply responded that he “believed in me, and I didn’t even believe in myself.” In the end, Brandon received a phone call from the casting crew and accepted the offer. Brandon said he was “so excited” to appear on the show and perhaps, have a future with Michelle.

In The Bachelorette Season 18 Episode 6, Michelle took Brandon to her favorite ice cream spot, Nelson’s Ice Cream. Then, she took Brandon to her childhood home. Since her parents weren’t home, Michelle decided to give Brandon a personal tour. The first stop was the wall of family photos, where Brandon saw a younger Michelle and her family members.

When they stepped inside her childhood bedroom, Michelle suggested taking a dip in their parents’ jacuzzi. She offered Brandon a pair of her father’s swimming trunks to wear. While they were kissing in the hot tub, Michelle’s parents came home. As they ventured into the backyard, her mother and father saw Michelle and Brandon kissing. “I wish I could have met them for the first time in a better way,” Brandon said. “But I’m just hoping they accept me for me.”

Once they dried off and got dressed, Michelle introduced her parents to Brandon. He mentioned that he wanted three kids during their conversation, which brought a smile to her mother’s face. When Michelle left them alone to talk, Brandon asked for their blessing.

“I feel so deeply for your daughter, and I want to have the happiest marriage with her,” said Brandon. “But I’m an old soul, and I will not marry your daughter unless I have your guys’ blessing.” Talk about romantic! The parents tell Brandon that if their daughter chooses him, they will have their blessing. “She looks so happy,” the mother whispered as Michelle and Brandon walked away. “I liked him a lot.”

Why did Brandon ask Michelle’s parents for their blessing?

When Brandon asked Michelle’s parents for their blessing, fans were shocked by the surprising gesture. So, why did Brandon choose to pop the question? Per Bachelor Insider, the frontrunner revealed that he was “so invested” in Michelle that he felt compelled to ask the question.

“At that moment, I was so invested in Michelle, and I didn’t know where I was going to end up in this process or where her connections were with other guys, so I realized it was an opportunity I couldn’t let go of,” he explained.

Brandon continued, “Just being the old soul that I am, my parents always told me to ask a woman’s parents for her hand in marriage. It was just a respect thing. Those are the people who raised this amazing woman. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get another chance, so I went a little bit off-script, and they called it ‘Brandon going rogue.’”
