Many Bachelorette fans thought Katie Thurston was going to end up with Greg Grippo. But the new episode on Aug. 2 blindsided everyone. The frontrunner self-eliminated, leaving co-host Kaitlyn Bristowe to pick the lead off the bathroom floor. Now, Kaitlyn is sharing Katie’s perspective on Greg’s exit — here’s what the former bachelorette had to say.

Katie took Justin Glaze, Blake Moynes, and Greg to Hometowns in The Bachelorette Season 17 Week 9. However, things started to spiral after Katie met Greg’s family.

The contestant confessed his feelings to Katie, revealing he was in love with her. However, Katie didn’t give him much to work with. “I just love looking at you,” she said.

Following Katie’s response, Greg became increasingly upset. The bachelorette tried to reassure her suitor. But her words didn’t seem to reach Greg. Then when the fight continued into the next day, it became clear that things weren’t going to work. Greg sent himself home.

At the end of The Bachelorette episode, Katie locked herself in the bathroom. Then the lead opened up to Kaitlyn.

“I feel blindsided right now,” Katie said. “Today, I’m heartbroken and defeated. It’s just this unnatural feeling of, like, trying to fall in love, but also dealing with the biggest heartbreak of your life. It just feels like it’s all for nothing.”

Kaitlyn Bristowe reveals how Katie Thurston felt the moment Greg Grippo left ‘The Bachelorette’

Many Bachelorette fans understand the ABC reality series can only show so much. So naturally, many things are edited out. But recently, Kaitlyn was able to fill in some gaps on the Katie and Greg situation. When speaking on the Click Bait podcast, the former lead revealed what Katie said and felt in the moment. Kaitlyn said:

“I actually didn’t really know how that all went down until I watched it back. So I was just hearing Katie’s side of the story. She was actually really self-deprecating about it. I feel like she wasn’t angry at the time. At the time, she wasn’t telling me, ‘Oh, Greg gaslighted me.’ She was kind of like, ‘I don’t know what happened!’”

Kaitlyn also shared that she initially “felt bad for Greg” because of Katie’s comments while filming. But her perspective has shifted since watching The Bachelorette on ABC.

“Could Katie have been a little bit more reactive to [Greg] saying these things? Of course. But the way that he responded to that was bulls—,” Kaitlyn said.

Meanwhile, Katie responded to Kaitlyn’s comments on Click Bait, revealing that the bathroom scene was the “lowest point” of her Bachelorette experience.

“@kaitlynbristowe sitting on the floor with me was the lowest point of my entire experience,” Katie wrote on her Instagram story on Aug. 5.

Still speaking on the Click Bait podcast, Kaitlyn shared how Katie is feeling about Greg’s exit after watching it on The Bachelorette. The former lead claimed that Katie recognizes she could’ve handled the situation better. Kaitlyn said:

“I talked to [Katie] this morning about this because I was like, ‘I hope you got some validation from how you were feeling last night. I know you pay attention to the internet, and I know it can be rough.’ And she was like, ‘I don’t remember being that silent to Greg after he opened up to me.’ … So she realizes in that moment, she could’ve done more.”

But ultimately, it seems Katie knows that Greg isn’t her person now.

“I think she’s more like, ‘Wow, I’m glad that happened there, and I could realize that he wasn’t my person,’” Kaitlyn said of Katie. “I think she’s finding some closure and comfort from watching it back.”
