In The Bachelorette Season 17 Episode 3, Nick will host a group date that focuses on the past relationships of Katie’s cast. Then when speaking with Access ahead of the new episode, Nick explained the premise and why he chose such a vulnerable date on the ABC reality series.

“My goal coming in … was how do we move things a little faster? How do we make this a little more realistic?” Nick said. “Every time someone shows up, it’s always like, ‘These are my fears, and this is what I’m good at. This is my sad story.’ That’s all nice to hear, and it’s all very endearing. But very rarely do we get to hear the nitty-gritty things of things that we’re not proud of, moments in relationships where we think we could’ve done better.”

He continued, “Those are important moments when you’re getting to know someone in a relationship. You might not talk about it on a first date, but this isn’t a normal world. So I wanted the guys to come clean about things they wanted to work on, things they wish they would’ve done better. I think showing self-awareness about mistakes we’ve made in a past shows the ability to be better in the future. That was the focus of that date because Katie doesn’t have enough time to have those types of conversations with every single guy.”

Nick’s comments about the next Bachelorette group date may not come as a surprise to some fans. When Katie stopped by the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast on June 15, the current lead revealed Nick’s return to the franchise will lead to an “important conversation.”

“It’s a conversation I want Bachelor Nation to join in on,” Katie said. “It’s a very important one for men and women to go through and understand. I’m just really excited to have that opportunity to share because I got to do that with the men. It really made a difference.”

Katie also hinted that she will also be sharing something significant about herself.

“Going through this date, I didn’t know this conversation was going to happen,” she said. “In my heart, I was like this is the time to share it. It surprised everybody, including myself. But it really was transformative for me on my journey and really bonded me with those men who were there.”

Then in her Instagram story on June 20, Katie revealed there will be “real conversations” coming in The Bachelorette Season 17 Episode 3.

“Real conversations happen in tomorrow’s episode,” Katie captioned a preview of the group date. “I encourage you to watch with loved ones as various topics may be triggering for some.”

Now, Bachelor Nation fans will have to watch the conversation in the new episode of The Bachelorette on June 21. But in the above interview with Access, Nick claimed the group date “worked out” in the end. He also shared what the chat will reveal about the contestants.

“I think overall, the guys really stepped up, some more than others,” Nick said. “Some of the guys, in a long-winded way, just kind of suggested they were f—boys.”

Meanwhile, multiple Bachelorette previews hinted that something important happens with contestants Thomas Jacobs and Connor Brennan, aka Connor B. But whatever unfolds, it seems Katie’s Bachelorette cast made a good impression on Nick.

“All in all, it seemed like a good group of guys,” Nick told Entertainment Tonight. “It was really interesting to see them share their stories. It’s a tough position to be in. I definitely set the tone in terms of I wanted to be friendly and say hi, but I had to kind of keep a more somber tone to kind of lead the date.”
