Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten’s frozen palomas cocktail recipe

If you’re looking for a cocktail that’s refreshing and delicious, Garten’s frozen palomas are just the thing. Made with tequila, lime, and grapefruit juice, they can be prepped ahead of time and ready to enjoy at kick off.

Garten shared a pic of her frozen cocktail on Instagram, suggesting it as a drink option to accompany her nachos for your Super Bowl menu.

“For the Super Bowl game, how about some cool and refreshing Frozen Palomas to go with those salty snacks?,” she noted in the caption. “You can make big pitchers of them and store them in the freezer so you won’t miss a thing! … And don’t forget Fresh Crab Nachos, also on my website.”

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice (3 to 4 grapefruit)
  • 1 cup white tequila
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice (3 to 4 limes)
  • ¼ cup simple syrup
  • 2 cups ice
  • Kosher salt
  • 4 thin wedges grapefruit, for garnish

Make a simple syrup by combining 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small pot. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Refrigerate.

For the cocktail, combine the grapefruit juice, tequila, lime juice, and simple syrup in a quart container. Freeze the mixture for at least 6 hours or overnight. Put half of the frozen mixture in a blender with 1 cup of ice and ¹⁄₈ teaspoon salt, blending until smooth. Serve in highball glasses. Repeat with the remaining mixture.

Jennifer Garner is a fan of the cocktail too

In 2020, Jennifer Garner prepared a Barefoot Contessa recipe and got a little help from her friend Garten. During the video, in which Garten joined the actor remotely, Garner made crispy chicken with lemon orzo from the Barefoot Contessa’s Modern Comfort Food cookbook.

Garner shared on social media, “@inagarten, my actual, true life friend, has written the cookbook that will fill your beaten up soul with joy and reinvigorate your relationship with quarantine cooking: Barefoot Contessa: #ModernComfortFood.”

She continued, “I find a new future family favorite with every flip through its beautiful pages. Oh, and Ina zoomed in to cook with me and didn’t even laugh at how harried I was, how I over browned my chicken breast (it was delectable), how unskilled I am at making things pretty — you are the best, Ina, thank you for Pretend Cooking with me! Congratulations on the release of your book — it is everything we need!”

Garten was impressed by Garner’s cooking skills and just as thrilled to see the actor pull a frozen paloma drink from her freezer. Garner had the drink at the ready in a mason jar that she picked at with a spoon before putting a generous scoop into a glass.

“I am so going to do that, keep them in the freezer,” Garten told her. “That’s such a good idea.”

“My freezer will never be without one again,” Garner assured her.
