Ryan Wilder has not always had the best luck with love. But in season 3 of The CW‘s Batwoman, perhaps Gotham’s superhero will find herself a love interest who isn’t in the Witness Protection Program. And after all of the work she is putting in to find the missing villainous items from Batman’s trophy case, Ryan deserves a little bit of love.

Ryan’s complicated relationship with Angelique

Ryan Wilder was first introduced in Batwoman Season 2 as she took on the mantle of Batwoman after Kate Kane went missing. As the season went on, we learned more about Ryan’s backstory, including someone with whom she had a ton of history.

Angelique Martin was a foster kid just like Ryan, and they shared the same home when they were young. They formed an unbreakable bond during their time there. At one point, the Candy Lady abducted Ryan, and Angelique let herself get kidnapped to save Ryan.

Later in their lives, their friendship turned romantic. But Ryan and Angelique’s relationship would be a tumultuous one, thanks to Angelique’s drug addiction. Ryan took Angelique’s drugs one day, but she got arrested by Crows, who mistook the drugs as her own. She served 18 months in prison for Angelique.

Angelique later resurfaced once Ryan became Batwoman, and the two struck up a romantic relationship again. However, Angelique was involved with the False Face Society, a group that Ryan was trying to take down. Their relationship would soon end when Angelique was arrested and put into the Witness Protection Program for testifying against the False Face Society. Hopefully, Ryan will have an easier love story in Batwoman Season 3.

Javicia Leslie addresses whether or not Ryan will get a love interest in ‘Batwoman’ Season 3

TVLine recently interviewed Javicia Leslie, who plays Ryan Wilder, and Robin Givens, who plays Jada Jet, about Batwoman Season 3. When asked about Ryan’s love life this season, Leslie said, “I don’t know if Ryan is going to get a girlfriend. I’m not lying to you. I promise you, I would tell you the truth… I don’t know if I would tell you the truth, but I would tell you that I’m not lying, and I’m not lying to you.”

Givens added, “She would not be able to keep it from you. If she knew, she would tell you.” Laughing, Leslie responded, “I think you’re right about that. I tend to do a lot of spoilers… You know what? That’s probably why they don’t answer any of my questions.”

However, Leslie later admitted that all was not lost in Ryan’s love life in Batwoman Season 3. She said, “I know that I’ve been told Ryan is going to have a romantic interest this season. But I don’t know if she’s going to get a girlfriend. I don’t know if it’s going to work. I don’t know if they’re going to grow into something.”

So who will this mystery woman be? Or could Ryan’s new love interest already be an established character in the show? Fans will just have to tune in to Batwoman Season 3 to find out.

Ryan meets her birth mother in ‘Batwoman’ Season 3

It might be difficult for Ryan to juggle her love interest and get to know her birth mother in Batwoman Season 3. In the season 2 finale, Alice revealed to Ryan that her birth mother was still alive. And since Ryan was led to believe that her mother died during childbirth, Alice’s news was quite the shock.

In the season 3 premiere, Sophie looked into Alice’s claims for Ryan and found them accurate. But Ryan didn’t want to know who her birth mother was. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t have a choice in the matter because in episode 2, her mother, Jada Jet, became aware that someone at Wayne Enterprises was looking into her. Ryan met Jada, who is a very successful businesswoman. Near the end of the episode, Ryan decided to tell Jada who she really was.

Batwoman Season 3 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
