After two years of being engaged, Becca Kufrin and Garrett Yrigoyen have called off their engagement. There have been speculations for weeks that the pair had called it quits. But, it seems that things have been made official despite the fact that neither Yrigoyen nor Kufrin has opened up about their split. But, even though wedding bells are no longer ringing for the former couple, Kufrin will still be able to keep her engagement ring.

Becca Kufrin first got engaged on ‘The Bachelor’

The pair met on Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette. Prior to her season, the Minnesota native went through a very public split with her former fiancé, Arie Luyendyk Jr. on The Bachelor. Though Luyendyk selected Kufrin as his ultimate winner, he couldn’t shake his feelings for his runner up, and now-wife, Lauren Luyendyk nee Burnham. Kufrin was obviously heartbroken, but landing the lead role of The Bachelorette gave her the opportunity to fall in love once more.

Garrett Yrigoyen has a history of problematic posts

Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette led to her engagement to Yrigoyen, but many people didn’t support the couple. During her season, some of Yrigoyen’s social media activity resurfaced where he liked transphobic, homophobic, xenophobic, and racists posts. He also liked a post that made a mockery of the Parkland shooting. Despite all this, Kufrin made the choice to stay engaged to him and maintained that he’d grown and changed.

But, Yrigoyen’s pro-police Instagram post amidst a time of where people were speaking out against police brutality seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. The couple has called it quits after celebrating two years of engagement in May 2019. But, two years is just enough time for Kufrin to keep the Neil Lane engagement ring that Yrigoyen proposed with.

Why Kufrin can keep her ring despite calling off her engagement

Many Bachelor fans know that the rings given out on Bachelor in Paradise, The Bachelor, and The Bachelorette are technically given on loan. If a couple decides to break up after a short amount of time, the rings must be returned and they cannot be sold. But, after two years the ring belongs to Kufrin free and clear.

“If you make it to the end of The Bachelor and decide to get married within the two years following the show, the producers own the exclusive rights to your wedding,” Amy Kaufman, author of Bachelor Nation: Inside the World of America’s Favorite Guilty Pleasure explained in her book. “As for the ring given to you by Neil Lane? You don’t own it — and therefore can’t sell it — for two years,” Kaufman explained. By this logic, Kufrin should have no problem keeping her engagement ring.

If she chooses to sell it, Kufrin’s ring could be worth a pretty penny. Kufrin’s engagement ring features an 18-carat gold band and boasts 84 diamonds that add up to about 4 carats. This is a departure from the rings that Lane normally brings to The Bachelor because he typically works with platinum. But, the jeweler was inspired to create something more glamorous and elegant, so he went with gold.

Though Kufrin likely thought she’d wear her engagement ring forever, at least she doesn’t have to give it back. She might never want to wear it again, but at least she has the option to sell it and make some serious money.
