Captain Glenn Shephard gathers the crew for the final tip meeting and thankfully, even after the drug suspicion mishap, the guests leave a $15,000 tip. Of course the crew looks relieved and thankful. “I am shocked at how big this tip is,” chief stew Jenna MacGillivray says in a confessional. “I feel such a sense of relief.”

Shephard then reveals how much the team made in total tip money too. “Regarding the totals for the season,” he says. “Each of us is walking away with more than $16,000 in our pocket (each). As a team we earned $143,000! That’s a testament of how well we worked together as a team!” The crew celebrates but how does this season stack up on tip money against other Below Deck seasons?

Tip money comes in mid-range for the franchise

Decider did a comprehensive breakdown of total tip money throughout the years. For a first season, Below Deck Sailing Yacht did far better than Below Deck season 1 and only a little worse than Below Deck Mediterranean season 1.

The team on Below Deck season 1 earned a total of $56,650. Whereas the crew on Below Deck Med season 1 scored $152,170. The Below Deck season 1 crew earned the lowest amount franchise-wide. However, that season was shot about seven years ago too.

Which season holds the record for the highest tips? Thus far, Below Deck season 5 is the winner, which ironically had the greenest crew. This group earned a total of $168,000. The crew on Below Deck season 6 earned $162,000 in tips.

Which chief stew earned the most tip money on average?

MacGillivray has only completed one season of the show so it is difficult to accurately compare her tip averages to chief stews, Hannah Ferrier, from Below Deck Med and Kate Chastain from Below Deck.

However, MacGillivray made about $16,000 this season. Decider found that Chastain averaged about $13,262 per season for a total of $66,314. But this only accounted for five out of the six seasons she did on the show. Ferrier averaged $12,790, for a total of $51,162. This tracked four of her seasons, with season 5 about the premiere on June 1.

But based on a single season, Chastain shared she made $19,000 in tip money shortly before joining Below Deck. “I really don’t keep track because I’m so busy,” Chastain said on the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show. “I’m like, ‘That sounds good, let’s keep going!’ But, in December of 2013, I made $19,000.”

Chef Adam likely got the biggest tip on ‘Below Deck Med’

Decider also tracked chef tips and which charter produced the highest amount. Yachties have often shared that the chef can make or break a charter. The crew from Below Deck Med season 4 was seriously concerned about their tip when they briefly had a chef who was making food from pre-packaged boxed ingredients.

The Below Deck chef to score the biggest tip ever was also the chef on board for the largest overall tip. Chef Matt Burns from season 5 takes the top position, helping to earn $30,000 for the team.

Glick was on his food game this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht. But he ended up helping to generate a $25,000 tip during Below Deck Med.
